At 9:30am on January 5, Gyeonggi Province Governor Nam Kyung-pil met with Guangdong Province Vice Governor Zhao Yufang and discussed measures to develop Sino-Korean relations as well as inter-provincial relations.

Vice Governor Zhao Yufang oversees economic and trade affairs, international exchanges, tourism, and Taiwan-related issues in Guangdong Province. She previously met Governor Nam in December of 2014 during his meeting with Guangdong Province Party Secretary Fu Chunhua.

Governor Nam said, “The Gyeonggi Business Center will open in Guangzhou by March this year. Hopefully, a corresponding representative body for economic and trade affairs will be established in Guangdong Province so that both regions can respond proactively to the Korea-China FTA and expand bilateral economic ties.”

Vice Governor Zhao Yufang responded, “China and Korea have signed an MOU so we expect trade to increase between the two regions.” Zhao added, “When Gyeonggi Province’s Guangzhou Business Center opens, we will cooperate fully.”

She continued, “Korea is one of the most popular tourist destinations for the residents of Guangdong Province, and Guangdong Province is a great place for Korean travelers to visit,” Vice Governor Zhao went on to request that both regions work towards promoting bilateral tourism exchanges.

Guangdong Province was the first region that China reformed and opened to the world. It also boasts the largest economy in China. Among the 31 provinces of China, Guangdong ranks first in terms of population, GDP, and trade.

Gyeonggi Province and Guangdong Province have maintained close cooperative ties in various sectors including economy, culture, tourism, health, and medicine since the establishment of sisterhood relations in 2003.
