marks among 17 cities and provinces in Comprehensive Joint Review

Gyeonggi Province was selected
as the best organization in terms of implementing its winter season natural
disaster response measures last year. On April 5, the Gyeonggi Province
Disaster and Safety Headquarters announced that it had been selected as the
most outstanding organization for 2015 winter season natural disaster response
implementation by the Ministry of Public Safety and Security. A corresponding
Presidential Award is expected in May.  

This award acknowledges
Gyeonggi Province’s achievement in earning the highest marks among
all 17 cities and provinces (2nd tier governments) in Korea during the joint
inspection of winter season natural disaster preventative measures conducted from
November 9 to 13 in 2015 by the Ministry of Public Safety and Security.  

Gyeonggi Province has been systematically
implementing winter season natural disaster response measures to prevent human
casualties. More specifically, it encouraged cooperation between different
departments to: promote winter season disaster management; create a database
for public facilities in danger of collapsing as well as other old residential
buildings; remove snow from dangerous road sections; and provide special care to
vulnerable groups by operating a comprehensive situation room for cold wave responses. 

Gyeonggi Province Safety
Management Office Director Kim Jeong-hoon said, “We realize that disaster response
directly affects the lives and property of Gyeonggi Province residents. We will
do our best to prepare for natural disasters during the summer including
torrential rains and storms.”
