Gyeonggi Province and the
Gyeonggi branch of the Planned Population Federation of Korea announced that
they will support health checkups to ensure healthy pregnancies among people of
marriageable age including soon-to-be-married and married couples.

This project intends to detect
and preemptively treat diseases that can affect pregnancy and childbirth while
also aiding couples who need to manage their health due to the increasing age of
people who marry and have children. Gyeonggi Province will invest KRW 200
million and begin the project on April 11.

Those eligible for this
project in Gyeonggi Province include 2,000 men and women including soon-to-be-married
and married couples and others of marriageable age (25-35 years old) as well as
2,400 pregnant mothers within the first 20 weeks of their pregnancy. Soon-to-be-married
couples refer to men and women planning to get married; if they meet certain
age and income criteria, they do not have to submit any documents to be
eligible.

People with an income level 150%
or less of the average national household income in 2016 (calculated based on health
insurance premium levels) and those recommended by the Head of the Provincial
Health Center are eligible.

Females can receive vitamin D, rubella, and thyroid checks as well as breast and pelvis ultrasounds, while males can receive liver, semen, and hepatitis A checks as well as upper body ultrasounds.

The comprehensive screening for
deformed embryos includes fragile X syndrome testing, zona pellucida testing,
pregnancy associated plasma protein-A (PAPP-A), and quad testing. All tests
will be performed for free.

Applications can be made by
visiting the Gyeonggi branch of the Family Health Center (former Mother-Son Health
Center) at the Planned Population Federation of Korea, or by sending
applications in via post. Applications can be made within the budgeted period
until the end of this year.
