Gyeonggi Province will proceed
with its small LPG storage tank supply project this year in 16 regions including
Wolgok1-dong in Pyeongtaek City. It will invest KRW 2.45 billion into the
project (KRW 450 million from the national budget and KRW 2 billion from the
provincial budget).

This project involves
installing small LPG storage tanks (less than three tons) in areas with poor
access to energy including farming and fishing villages where city gas networks
cannot reach. The project will also connect each household with a pipe network
to supply LPG for cooking and heating.
Beginning with two tanks in
Hagaejeong Village in Anseong City and Cheori Village in Yeoju City back in
2014, Gyeonggi Province invested KRW 1.2 billion (KRW 1.2 billion from the
national budget and KRW 1.0 billion from the provincial budget) in 2015 to supply
LPG tanks to 15 villages including Uncheon 3-ri in Paju City.

Gyeonggi Province conducted
demand surveys of cities and counties during the latter half of last year and
selected nine villages in eight cities and counties as the locations for this
year
s
project. For the remaining seven villages, the provincial government plans to
make selections by the end of this month based on applications from villages that
request LPG tanks via their cities and counties.

Once this project is complete,
the LPG distribution structure will be simplified, and the unit supply cost
will decrease; this will help residents in areas with poor energy access to utilize
LPG at a low cost and in a safe and convenient manner.

Of particular note, according
to information released by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the
Korea LPG Piping Network Group, the price of LPG per MJ was approximately 89% that
of LNG as of August 2015.
In addition, Gyeonggi Province
expects this project will make LPG more convenient and safer by eliminating the
need to replace LPG containers with suppliers managing the overall safety of
LPG usage.

Gyeonggi
Province Energy Division Chief Gong Jeong-sik said,
This
project will enable residents in areas with poor energy access to use fuel
safely at a low price.
Chief
Gong added,
We will work even harder to
improve energy welfare for the people of Gyeonggi Province.

With the small LPG storage tank
supply project in place, the distribution structure for LPG will be simplified,
and the unit supply cost will decrease; this will help residents in areas with
poor energy access to use LPG at a low cost and in a safe and convenient
manner.
