Thanks to the persistent
efforts of the Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek Port Corporation (GPPC), a new regular
container shipping lane connecting Pyeongtaek Port in Gyeonggi Province and
Haiphong in Vietnam has been added.
According to the GPPC on April
11, national shipping companies Sinokor Merchant Marine and Hanjin Shipping
began servicing a new shipping lane from Pyeongtaek Port to Vietnam (Haiphong) and
China (Hong Kong and Yantian).
This new shipping lane will
make port at Pyeongtaek Port every Saturday morning. Two 1000TEU vessels will
service this weekly route and key cargo transported will include machinery and
parts.
Beginning with a relay
marketing campaign for Southeast Asian consigners located in industrial
complexes near Pyeongtaek Port in 2013, GPPC has been engaged in sales
activities to expand into Southeast Asian markets including Vietnam.
In addition, it created a
distribution consortium with Gyeonggi Province and the Pyeongtaek Regional Maritime
Affairs & Port Office to visit Vietnam and sign memorandum of
understandings with the Vietnam International Distribution Association, Vietnam
Port Authority, and Vietnam Chamber of Commerce for sustained exchange and
cooperation.
Additionally, in March when
GPPC confirmed the opening of this new shipping lane, the GPPC directed its
full attention to securing stable subsequent volumes of transported goods for the
opening of this new shipping lane with port marketing for Pyeongtaek Port targeting
related organizations, consignors, and distribution companies in Hanoi and Ho
Chi Minh in Vietnam.
GPPC CEO Choi Kwang Ill said, “Despite the slowing of the global economy, we
expect Southeast Asian markets like Vietnam to grow even faster. Along with
China, Southeast Asia will develop into one of Pyeongtaek Port’s major trade partners.” He added, “With this new shipping
lane to Southeast Asia available, we will continue to pursue more aggressive
port marketing efforts with relevant organizations to promote Pyeongtaek Port’s advantages including
lower distribution costs, and contribute to the growth of our national and
local economies.”
An official with Sinokor
Merchant Marine said, “Considering the considerable need for a shipping
lane between Pyeongtaek Port and Vietnam combined with Vietnam’s economic growth rate,
we decided to open this new shipping lane.” The official added, “We’ll do our best to offer
the best possible service by cooperating with relevant authorities for the
shipping lane’s
stable management and benefit clients while managing their distribution
activities.”
