Tourists to Gyeonggi Province prefer Everland in Yongin and Imjingak in Paju

Gyeonggi Province attracted 63.698 million tourists last year; 17.2%
increase from a decade ago

The most popular destination among
tourists coming to Gyeonggi Province was Everland in Yongin City. Among all
tourist attractions, Imjingak in Paju City was the most popular destination among
foreign tourists.
 

 

Analysis of statistical data by the Korea Culture
and Tourism Institute in Gyeonggi Province revealed that a total of 63.698
million tourists (domestic and international) visited Gyeonggi Province in 2015,
representing a 17.2% increase from the 54.358 million tourists who came in
2005.
  

 

The most popular destinations
for tourists were: Yongin with 13.998 million visitors; Gwacheon with 12.521
million; Goyang with 10.944 million; and Paju with 8.007 million. These four
regions accounted for 71.4% of all tourists visiting Gyeonggi Province. Of particular
note, Gwangmyeong City, which attracted a mere 5,000 tourists in 2005, received
1.543 million visitors last year, an308-fold increase in just ten years that
can be attributed in part to the development of Gwangmyeong Cave.
  

 

The
most popular venues among tourists were: Yongin Everland (7.323 million
visitors); Imjingak in Paju (5.8 million); KINTEX in Goyang (5.218 million); Seoul
Grand Park (4.706 million); LetsRun Park in Gwacheon (3.756 million); Seoul
Land (2.028 million); Korean Folk Village in Yongin (1.468 million); Caribbean
Bay (1.432 million); Gwacheon National Science Museum; (1.322 million); and Morning
Calm Arboretum (1.158 million).

There are 240 tourist venues listed
in Gyeonggi Province. Yongin and Anseong have the most with 33 venues each
(13.8%), followed by Gapyeong with 27 (11.3%), Paju with 24 (10.0%), and Goyang
with 21 (8.8%).
 

Last year, the number of
foreign tourists to Gyeonngi Province totaled 3.276 million, a 79.9% increase
from 1.821 million in 2005. A total of 11.933 million foreign tourists visited
Korea over the same time period. Among all regions, Gyeonggi Province attracted
the largest number of foreign tourists.
 

 

By region, Paju City received
1.083 million tourists, followed by Yongin City (885 thousand) and Goyang City
at 613.1 thousand. By venue, Imjingak in Paju lead the province (625 thousand),
followed by Everland in Yongin (466 thousand), the Korean Folk Village (376
thousand), the Third Infiltration Tunnel in Paju (306 thousand), and the Kimchi
School in Goyang (282 thousand) filled out the top five.
 

 

Gyeonggi Province Future
Strategy Division Director Ahn Dong-gwang said,
The number of
international tourists continues to increase thanks to the impact of the Korean
Wave. Of particular note, foreign tourists are heading to northern Gyeonggi
where they can experience the scars of a divided nation.
Ahn added, Gyeonggi Province plans
to use these results on tourism when it establishes policies for tourism.
