Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Small & Medium Business Center opened a booth for Gyeonggi Province at INDEX DUBAI 2016 with twelve furniture makers from the province. Gyeonggi Province announced on May 30 that the participating companies were able to hold 169 consultations worth USD 10.87 million and sign 140 export contracts worth USD 7.29 million.
INDEX DUBAI 2016 was held at the Dubai World Trade Center from May 23 to 26.
The largest furniture and interior exhibition in the Middle East, INDEX DUBAI marked its 25th occasion this year. Using a vast floor space of 46,000 square meters, a total of 1,030 companies from 70 countries participated in this year’s event to showcase various furniture products.
Twenty-two Korean companies participated in INDEX DUBAI, which was the largest Korean group ever dispatched to the event. Among the 22, Gyeonggi Province selected 12 furniture makers from the province to open a Gyeonggi Province booth. Gyeonggi Province subsidized up to 50% of the rental costs for the booth and as well as equipment in addition to the one-way transportation costs.
HanSung School Furniture, a company specializing in the production of children’s school furniture, signed a sample contract worth USD 300,000 for new office furniture and school furniture products with a buyer who works primarily out of Dubai. HanSung and the buyer agreed to discuss additional contracts upon the buyer visiting Korea. Apart from this, HanSung was able to hold 13 consultations for exports worth USD 520,000.
Chair Meister, an office chair producer, was able to conduct export consultations worth a total of USD 620,000 including discussions with a buyer who supplies public organizations in Abu Dhabi and Dubai over local supplies.
Chung Do Industrial, a producer of automatically height adjustable desks for children, engaged in export consultations worth a total of USD 480,000 including an offer from a company in Al Quoz, Dubai, to join a government supply business for furniture to be used in schools in Dubai.
Division Head Oh Byeong-seop from Patra Korea (a professional office chair brand), which has business dealings with 52 countries around the world, said, “The six countries of the GCC in the Middle East are attractive markets given the increasing demand for construction and furniture as well as a wide range of demands for the 2020 Olympic.” Oh added, “Consulting with numerous overseas buyers during this year’s event, we were able to confirm information about overseas markets and check responses to products, so it was a productive time.”
Gyeonggi Province Assistant Governor for Economy Oh Byeong-kwon said, “The results in terms of contracts by companies participating in this year’s INDEX DUBAI stands as evidence that the competitiveness of outstanding furniture companies in Gyeonggi Province has improved.” Oh continued, “We will offer organized support to help the furniture industry in Korea become a focal point in international markets.”
