Gyeonggi
Province will increase its support for overseas marketing efforts to stem a decline
in exports caused by uncertainty in global markets.
Gyeonggi
Province is set to increase the number of overseas marketing events it supports
from 47 to 59 this year. An official with the provincial government explained, “We are
increasing the number of supported events to explore new offshore markets and to
stimulate exports for companies in Gyeonggi Province. Therefore, we decided to
add 12 new events during the second half of 2016.”
The 12
additional events include joint booths at eight overseas exhibitions and four
trade promotion groups dispatched overseas.
In
terms of overseas exhibitions, Gyeonggi Province will help companies in
Gyeonggi Province participate in eight exhibitions including the Taiwan
International Electronics Show (TAITRONICS), the Hong Kong Global Sources Gift
and Home Exhibition, the China Shenzhen International Gift and Home Product
Fair, the China Guangzhou International Auto Parts Expo, the Shanghai Children
Baby Maternity Products Expo, the Shenzhen Hi-Tech Fair, Iran ICT, and Delhi
ACETECH.
Meanwhile,
four trade promotion groups will be dispatched to Southern Europe (Milano,
Madrid), Southeast Asia (Bangkok, Hanoi), Central Asia-China (Tashkent, Almaty,
Dalian), and Eastern Europe (Moscow, Warsaw).
Apart
from these events, Gyeonggi Province has decided to recruit 15 more companies
to participate in joint booths at overseas exhibitions. The provincial government
took into account the popularity of the Canton Beauty Expo 2016 Autumn Edition as
well as Hong Kong COSMOPROF Asia, and decided to accept five more companies for
the former and 10 more for the latter despite the fact that the application
window for both events is now closed.
Gyeonggi
Province subsidizes 50% of booth rental costs, booth installation costs, and
one-way freight costs for exhibited items for companies participating in the
joint booth. For those participating in the trade promotion group, Gyeonggi
Province will provide a venue where participants can meet, arrange 1-on-1 buyer
meetings, offer interpretation services, and assist with vehicle rentals.
However, participating companies must pay for their own airfares, local living
expenses, and customs tax.
Companies
based in Gyeonggi Province or companies with production facilities in Gyeonggi
Province with total exports of less than USD 20 million in 2015 can apply for
this initiative. Applications can be submitted through the EGBIZ website for
information on small and medium business support (www.egbiz.or.kr).
Gyeonggi
Province International Trade Division Director Lee So-chun said, “Although
the global economy isn’t in great shape, we must do more to find overseas
markets.” Lee added, “We hope to see a lot of interest from small
and medium businesses in Gyeonggi Province seeking overseas expansion.”
