Gyeonggi
Province will open up its future government complex site in
Gwanggyo, which is covered with cosmos, to visitors.
Gyeonggi Province is holding an event under the theme of ‘2016 Good
Morning Cosmos Flower Garden’ from October 21 to 28.
This event was planned in order to provide residents of the province with a
place of rest, as the future site of the provincial government complex is covered
with cosmos, covering an area of 85,218㎡, during the
event.
Amongst the cosmos flowers, there will be photo zones and walking trails with
nighttime illumination. The venue is open to visitors from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
There will also be various programs to enjoy.
On October 21, the first day of the event period, visitors can participate
in a scarecrow-making event, in which approximately 370 elementary school
students from Saneui Elementary School and Sanpoong Elementary School will also
participate. In addition, there will be an opening performance by the Gwanggyo
Lady’s Choir.
The first day will include promotional events for local specialty products,
such as Korean beef, as well as booths featuring such activities as face-painting
and caricature drawing. Small-scale street performances by the public service members
of Gyeonggi Provincial Government hobbyist groups as well as those of nearby colleges will also
be staged in the cosmos field.
On October 22, a book festival, the 1st Gyeonggi Readers Festival, will take
place. Participants can borrow books
from facilities installed outdoors as well as the mobile library free of charge,
and read them in the parasol or reading zones set up at the venue while
enjoying the autumn atmosphere.
A provincial government official said, “As a follow-up
to the spring time event, the autumn site opening event will encourage
communication with residents of the province while construction of the new
provincial government complex is executed as scheduled.” He added, “I hope many residents will visit
this future site of the provincial government, which is covered with cosmos, to
enjoy the flourishing autumn atmosphere in the middle of the city.”
This opening of the future provincial government complex site is being
undertaken to encourage communication and openness, which is a pledge to residents. As a beginning of this commitment, the
provincial government tore down the fences surrounding the 118,000㎡site last October. The provincial government then planted barley and
canola, installed the night landscaping arbor, and held a spring season event this
past May.
