Gyeonggi
Province was selected as the only ‘Excellent’ organization among 2nd tier governments
at the Local Social Security Management Systems event, an
evaluation of local welfare projects conducted by the Ministry of Health & Welfare
in 2016.
The Local
Social Security Management Systems evaluation began in 2010 to share and
promote exemplary cases from each locality among 2nd tier governments as
well as 3rd tier governments such as cities, counties, and districts across the
country.
For 2nd tier governments, the
following aspects were assessed: social security committee achievements; crucial
issue deliberations; systematic foundation establishment; and private-public
sector cooperation success cases.
The
evaluation procedures involved an initial review of documents for the details
and effects of successful local social security systems, a secondary review by
the evaluation committee, and a tertiary site visit to confirm the
achievements.
Gyeonggi
Province revealed that it received high marks from the judges for enacting ordinances
to promote and stabilize the social security committee in Gyeonggi Province,
and for developing and implementing Gyeonggi Welfare Governance.
Gyeonggi
Welfare Governance is a system wherein various public and private stakeholders
discuss and build a consensus on welfare issues. Since the system began in
April of 2016, Gyeonggi Province has hosted 23 working-level meetings for Gyeonggi
Welfare Governance, discussing issues such as improving working conditions for
employees at social welfare facilities.
Winners
of the local welfare project evaluation will be honored at an award ceremony in
late December.
Gyeonggi
Province Welfare Policy Division Director Kim Mun-hwan said, “We will do our utmost to
continue developing our local social security systems like Gyeonggi Welfare
Governance and improve public living conditions.”
