○ Gyeonggi Peace Square Book Cafe opens all year round from May as part of service

Seeking to become a major culture and leisure space in northern Gyeonggi Province, the Gyeonggi Peace Square of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government’s northern complex will serve as venue for a variety of festivals and cultural performances that can be enjoyed with family in celebration of Family Month.

First, on May 4 (Saturday), the Peace Talk Hall will stage a puppet show, My House is the Best, to remind children of the value of their families through a fun puppet performance, while on May 5 (Sunday), magic shows, bubble performances, and busking take place at the Gyeonggi Peace Square.

On May 11 (Saturday), there will be a busking performance by popera singer Sweet Tree and a finger puppet show for children at the Gyeonggi Peace Square.

On May 15 (Wednesday), an author meeting will be held in the Peach Talk Hall with Park Jung-hwa, author of the book A Living History, a Dreamlike Career. who has been invited to deliver a lecture to parents on children’s career choices and career paths.

On May 18 (Saturday), there will be performances by the electronic string group Karin and the Gyeonggi Provincial Music Orchestra at the Gyeonggi Peace Square, and a reptile magic show during which one can see uncommon and interesting reptiles together with magic tricks.

In addition to this, the Gallery for All in the provincial government’s northern complex will be the venue for art exhibitions, including the Children’s Art Exhibition (May 1-11), the Children’s Artist Exhibition (May 14-21), and the Fairy Tale Illustration Exhibition (from May 27), as well as the Gyeonggi Residents’ Peace Market, which will be held every Saturday in the square.

Meanwhile, the Gyeonggi Peace Square Book Cafe will operate year round from May as part of an open service for the public. Its hours of operation are from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm on weekdays and to 5:00 pm on weekends; it is closed on public holidays.

The service expansion is due to the popularity of the Book Cafe among local residents, with a sharp membership increase of 1,700 along with a 16-fold increase in the number of users compared to the previous year. This growth is attributable to its various relaxation culture services and pleasant reading environment.

In addition, to provide a healthy reading environment for residents, Book Cafe personnel plan to conduct spring cleaning activities that include the services of a specialized disinfection company, and to maintain a comfortable space through continuous disinfection management.

An official of Gyeonggi Province’s Administration Division stated: “The Gyeonggi Peace Square and Book Cafe are cultural spaces for residents, happy communication spaces to be enjoyed with family members, as well as harmonizing spaces that symbolize peace. They will be established as landmarks of northern Gyeonggi Province through a variety of festivals held in the square and diverse cultural activities of the cafe.
