Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters Realizes 87% Fire Safety Device Installation Rate at Foreign Worker Accommodations

This year, the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters supplied residential fire safety devices (extinguishers, fire alarms, etc.) to foreign worker accommodations free of charge and encouraged related installations at workplaces, raising the installation rate to 87%.
According to the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters on May 16, there are 15,462 workplaces with accommodations for foreign workers in the province, excluding business closures. As of January this year, there were 11,413 places where residential fire safety devices were installed, marking an installation rate of 73.8%. However, by intensively installing residential fire safety devices over a 4-month period, 2,025 new locations saw installations, raising the installation rate to 87%.
This year, the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters supplied residential fire safety devices to 478 lodgings for foreign workers in Gyeonggi Province free of charge. This figure exceeded the existing installation goal of supplying fire safety devices to 200 places by 240%.
Concurrently, the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters has been supplying residential fire safety devices free of charge to foreign worker accommodations and encouraging self-installation at the remainder.
Accordingly, the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters decided to complete 100% installation by the end of October before the onset of winter through a revision of its original plan.
Jeon Yong-ho, Life Safety Director at the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters, said, “Thanks to each business site’s understanding of the importance of fire safety and their active participation, we were able to achieve the installation rate early. We plan to further accelerate the installation of fire safety devices for all foreign worker accommodations by October.”
