Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education have established the Regional Consultation Body for Multicultural Education so as to realize close cooperation with students from multicultural families.

On May 16, Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education held the first meeting of the Regional Consultation Body for Multicultural Education at the Siheung Campus of Seoul National University with 170 participants who oversee support for multicultural children in the 31 cities and counties of the province.

The Regional Consultation Body for Multicultural Education consists of Gyeonggi Province, its 31 cities and counties, the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, the Education Support Office, and Multicultural Family Support Centers.

Gyeonggi Province explained that the meeting on this day was significant in that personnel from Gyeonggi Province responsible for multicultural family affairs and personnel from the Office of Education responsible for students from multicultural families gathered in one place. Starting with the establishment of the consultation body on this day, the two organizations plan to proceed with discussions on matters related to multicultural students in the region.

Accordingly, the council will discuss the efficient operation and improvement of education projects for multicultural and foreign children, the sharing of various practices related to support for students from multicultural families in each region, the establishment of a basis for regional cooperation, the raising of multiculturalism awareness and sustainable multicultural education policies, and more.

Ji Joo-yeon, Director General of Gyeonggi Province’s Women and Family Bureau, said, “As the number of school-aged multicultural children is increasing, Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education have begun to pursue joint measures for the education of multicultural students. We will cooperate so that multicultural children can grow into healthy members of Korean society.”
