Gyeonggi Province will implement follow-up measures, such as requesting a police investigation and portal sites search portal to blockage, information searches accordingbased on to the results of its recent inspection of websites suspected of posting false offerings of used cars listings.
According to a Gyeonggi Province statement on the August 11th, the province provincial administration has decided towill call in on the police to investigate 31 used car sales websites that had have violated the Motor Vehicle Management Act. In addition, the government province also requested the cooperation of major portal websites, such as Daum and Naver, in for their cooperation to blocking online Internet searches so as to ensure that the corresponding websites do not appear when searching for “used cars” on the portal websitesin related search results.
Earlier, the provincial government had disclosed held in a July 27 briefing on the Jul 27 and unveiled that, after selecting identifying 31 websites with poor descriptions on ofthe vehicle locations, business operator information, and vehicle prices through the a search engines of Internet web portal for sample survey, 95% of the their offeringslistings on those websites were found to be false.

Under the Motor Vehicle Management Act, posting false offerings or misleading ads information may can be punished by imprisonment with labor for up to not more than 2 years or by a fine of up to not exceedingKRW 20 million won.
In addition, Gyeonggi Province will discuss measures with diverse experts from all walks of life on the a provincial level to address chronic issues in the used car sales market, including false offeringslistings, and to formulate the a policy direction on regarding the recent and controversial entry of large companies into the used car market.
“Starting with this measure, we will continue to conduct inspections of and implement preventive measures for the used car sales market so as to prevent any damage to consumers and root out false offeringslistings,” said Gyeonggi Province Fair Economy Division Director Kim Ji-ye, Assistant Director of the Fair Consumer Division in Gyeonggi Province.
