– Guidelines to ensure more practical and convenient use of community resources by school police officers
Gyeonggi Province, in association with the Gyeonggi Youth Counseling and Welfare Center and the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency, is supporting youths in crisis.
The Gyeonggi Youth Counseling and Welfare Center has produced the “Guidelines for the Project to Support Youths in Crisis (School Police Officer – SPO Version),” an initiative that will help school police officers (SPOs) support youths in crisis. A delivery ceremony for the guidelines was held on August 10 with the participation of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government’s Youth Safety Net Team, the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency’s Children and Juvenile Division, and the Gyeonggi Youth Counseling and Welfare Center.
These guidelines were produced to address the need to promote connections for youths in crisis proposed at a meeting of the Gyeonggi Youth Safety Net Steering Committee last October, and were organized to ensure more practical and convenient use of community resources such as the Gyeonggi Youth Counseling and Welfare Center, provincial child protection agencies, and children’s homes by school police officers.
An official representing school police officers of the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency said, “These guidelines will provide considerable help to school police officers in protecting and guiding youths in crisis.” The official added, “We will distribute 150 copies of the guidelines for the edification of school police officers in southern Gyeonggi Province.”
The youth safety network of Gyeonggi Province is a regional cooperation network that links related resources for the provision of customized services—such as counseling, protection, medical care and self-reliance—to youths in crisis. It is run by the Adolescence Division of Gyeonggi Province pursuant to the Youth Welfare Support Act.
