On May 9, Gyeonggi Province’s Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) platform “Dokta” won the grand prize at Mobile Awards Korea 2024, the most prestigious mobile app award event in the nation.
Mobile Awards Korea is an awards program that identifies products and services with outstanding technologies and differentiating qualities through consumer research and reviews by industry and academic experts.
Dokta, which won the grand prize at the awards, is a platform that allows users to hail and pay for various modes of transportation through a single app. It started as Gyeonggi’s on-demand transportation hailing system for “Dokbus” (smart bus) and shared PM (personal mobility) rentals, and launched shared bike rental and taxi hailing services earlier this year.
Meanwhile, the Dokbus – which can be called by the Dokta app – operates for 149 buses in 12 cities of Gyeonggi Province (Paju, Ansan, Pyeongtaek, Suwon, Goyang, Gimpo, Hwaseong, Yangju, Hanam, Anseong, Icheon, and Bucheon), and is expected to become more convenient for residents as it gradually expands. In addition, the technology is highly regarded for its ability to shorten travel time by flexibly setting and changing optimal routes according to AI algorithms.
In addition, shared bicycles, which started operation in January last year, and personal mobility devices (PMs), which were launched in February 2023, are available and can be used in 23 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province (Suwon, Yongin, Goyang, Seongnam, Hwaseong, Bucheon, Namyangju, Ansan, Pyeongtaek, Anyang, Siheung, Gimpo, Paju, Uijeongbu, Gwangju, Gwangmyeong, Hanam, Gunpo, Yangju, Icheon, Yeoju, Dongducheon, Gapyeong) through the Dokta app without downloading separate apps. In addition, as part of the Gyeonggi Children and Youth Shared Bicycle Usage Fee Support Project, young people who live in Gyeonggi Province can receive a KRW 1,000 discount each time they use a shared bicycle through the Dokta app.
“We are pleased to be recognized for the creativity and differentiation of our new conceptual mobility service, the Dokta app… We will continue to provide transportation services that many residents can conveniently use by expanding various connections,” said Min Kyung-sun, President of Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation, in response to the award.
Meanwhile, the company has also won the Presidential Award in the Best Practice Contest for Active Public Administration last November for “Dokta Bus” (a demand-responsive transportation service on the Dokta platform), as well as the grand prize at App Awards Korea 2023 and the grand prize in the public service category at the Mobile Awards Korea 2024.
