Happy Car-sharing during Golden Week in May

The Gyeonggi Provincial Government will be accepting applications for the ‘Happy Car-sharing’ program during the first week of May. On April 11, the provincial government announced that the car-sharing program will be run from Buddha’s Birthday this May 3 (Wednesday) to May 7 (Sunday) including Children’s Day on May 5 (Friday). Applications will be accepted from April 12 to 27. Happy Car-sharing is a car-sharing program that enables residents to use public vehicles that are not used during weekends and holidays free of charge. Although the first Thursday of May is not a holiday, vehicles can be borrowed since it is between the holidays on the Wednesday and Friday of that same week.

The program targets national basic livelihood beneficiaries, those in near poverty groups, single parents, multicultural, and multi-child families, and North Korean defector families. The driver must be 26 years of age or older and have not been involved in one of 11 types of major accidents in the past two years. A total of 105 sedans and 12-passenger vans are available. Approved applicants can pick up their vehicles at designated locations amongst 63 vehicles from the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex, 16 from the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Northern Complex, and 26 from affiliated organizations and agencies. The rental is free; users, however, should pay for fuel and highway tolls. The rental period runs from 7:00AM on May 3 to 7:00PM on May 7. To apply for the car rental program, refer the website of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government (www.gg.go.kr/happycar), visit the Accounting Division (+82-31-8008-3812) of the provincial government, or send an application via fax (+82-31-8008-3769). Please contact the Accounting Division for more information. Since the launch of the program on May 5, 2016, a total of 6,775 people have participated in the Happy Car-sharing program. The monthly average number of users is 616.
