Observing the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, Gyeonggi Province and Gwangmyeong City will together host the “Knock, knock! Fair Trade” event to promote fair trade and related products at the Gwangmyeong Theater and Gwangmyeong Lifelong Learning Community Center on October 17 at 2 PM.

“Fair Trade Day” is observed around the world through different campaigns to promote fair trade, which is based on equal positions among countries, and encourage active participation. It is celebrated annually on the second Saturday of May, but due to COVID-19, Gyeonggi Province is holding this event on the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.

The event, which will be joined by 40 participants, including Gwangmyeong City Mayor Park Seung-won, Gyeonggi Province Assembly Member Won Mi-jeong, and other fair trade officials, will include a ceremony certifying Gwangmyeong City as Fair Trade City, a session for introducing fair trade products of Gyeonggi Province, a fair trade talk concert, and more.

Furthermore, to explain the relevance of fair trade in our everyday lives in a fun and easy manner, a vlog-like fair trade showroom will be presented to viewers.

The event will be publically livestreamed via the official YouTube channel of Gwangmyeong City (http://youtu.be/0LhAYsW0cZY).

Communication and Co-Governance Bureau Director General Seo Nam-gwan (Gyeonggi Provincial Government) said, “The prolonged impact of COVID-19 is threatening employment and sales, thereby leading to economic difficulties, putting regional farmers and workers in more difficult situations. I hope this fair trade event gives us an opportunity to once again consider a world in which we should take care of each other.”
