Article 1. Gyeonggi Discloses Youth Rental Housing Designs (161226-1)
[Anchor’s Headline] At the beginning of his term in office, Gyeonggi Province Governor Nam Kyung-pil announced the development of low-cost rental housing known as Ddabok (따복) House for college students, career starters and young married couples. Gyeonggi Province plans to construct 10,000 Ddabok housing units by the year 2020.

Gyeonggi Province has already been operating a pilot Ddabok (따복) housing complex in Anyang (안양) City with monthly rent and deposits that are approximately one third lower than local market rates.
These apartment-style housing units consist of fully equipped rooms and kitchens as well as common facilities suitable for youths.

The Ddabok housing units for young married couples were designed to facilitate childrearing and community relations. Communal facilities include childcare centers, vegetable gardens and libraries.

The Ddabok housing units for single youths have more common facilities appropriate for the needs of younger individuals such as common kitchens and dining rooms as well as sports facilities and study rooms.

On December 29, public notification was made to invite residence applications for the first Ddabok (따복) housing complex that is being constructed based on these designs.

Article 2. Gyeonggi Farm Product Corners Open in Large Supermarket Chain (161226-2)
[Anchor’s Headline] The Korean supermarket chain Homeplus recently opened Gyeonggi Province farm product sections in their retail outlets in the province. The opening of these special sections that feature products supplied directly by Gyeonggi farmers was realized by the provincial government.

Gyeonggi Province negotiated with Homeplus to secure a stable market for farmers. These special retail sections will feature fresh eco-friendly fruits and vegetables as well as G-mark processed foods produced in the province.

Article 3. Gyeonggi Successfully Aids New Businesses with Online Exports (161226-3)
[Anchor’s Headline] Last year, Gyeonggi Province launched a business startup support program for online overseas direct sales enterprises established by youths. This new type of online international sales support program has proven beneficial for participating new businesses.

Lee (이병윤) is a 38-year-old online business founder who operates a one-person enterprise that sells domestic auto parts and home electrical appliances via overseas online shopping malls.
After receiving international sales education as well as operational space and cost support for business startups from Gyeonggi Province, he was able to achieve sales of KRW 150 million in only eight months.

Article 5. Face Museum in Gyeonggi Province (161227-3)
[Anchor’s Headline] In Gyeonggi Province, there is an unusual museum that features everything about faces. Titled ‘Face Museum’, this unlikely museum was established by a former theater actor and features a personal collection of thousands of human face depictions.

From the face of mid-20th century Hollywood actress Marylyn Monroe to the facial expressions of musicians absorbed in playing instruments and the cigarette-smoking faces of a various personalities, the exhibits at this museum display an infinite variety of human emotions and inner worlds conveyed by facial expressions.

All items displayed at this museum have been collected personally by the curator himself over a span of 50 years.
▶ More Than 3,000 Face Depictions Displayed
This museum has more than 3,000 human face depictions including stone engravings, wood carvings, ceramic dolls, masks, photographs and portraits. Most exhibits are displayed openly instead of being locked in showcases, making them more readily appreciated.

Coming out of the exhibition hall, viewers are led to the backyard of a traditional Korean tiled-roof home that was relocated from South Cheolla Province.
Arrayed in this backyard are stone engravings and statues collected from all over the country including those of aristocrats, scholars and mischievous boys as well as totem poles, many of which have been weathered through centuries of exposure to the elements.

Article 6. Gyeonggi Provincial Administration in 2016 (161227-1)

The integrated free online education website ‘E-Seek’ received an enthusiastic public response as shown by more than 14,000 registrations within one month of its opening.
Gyeonggi Province has also received the highest ratings in regional safety indices in Korea for two consecutive years.
Last year, Gyeonggi Province announced 10-year development plans for northern Gyeonggi regions and entered the second half of its political coalition period.
The key phrase for the provincial administration in 2017 as outlined by Gyeonggi Province Governor Nam Kyung-pi is ‘job creation’.

Article 7. Groundbreaking for Rental Housing for Newlyweds (161228-2)
[Anchor’s Headline] On December 27, the groundbreaking for the construction of rental housing for young married couples took place in Suwon (수원) City. Gyeonggi Province had announced the construction of 10,000 rental units for youths under the title of Ddabok (따복) House.

This Ddabok housing complex, the first of its kind, will consist of 204 housing units in a 12-story building; 182 units are allocated for newly-wed couples and the remainder for unmarried youths who face difficulties in finding accommodations.
▶ Rents at 40 – 64% of Local Rates
Ddabok housing units are available at only 40 to 64 percent of local rates.

“Young married couples face difficulties in having and rearing children due to high housing costs. That is why we are developing rental housing that is economical and suitable for child rearing.”

▶ Deposit Payment Support Provided upon Childbirth
New parents will be provided with support for 60 percent of the deposit amount, and for the entire deposit amount upon the birth of their second child.

This Ddabok (따복) housing complex consists of two-room apartments of 36 to 44 square meters as well as common childcare facilities.

A public announcement inviting residence applications was made on December 29.
Resident occupation is slated to begin in April of 2018. Ddabok (따복) House construction at other sites will follow through to the year 2020.
