Greetings, everyone, and thank you for joining us for this week’s edition of GTV.
I’m Don Valiant and this is the news from Gyeonggi Province this week.
Article1.Gyeonggi Ceramic Festival Begins (160504-3)
[Anchor’s Headline] In May each year,Gyeonggi Province organizes ceramic festivals concurrentlyat three venues in regions with strong ceramic traditions, each witha different theme. Our reporter visited some of theseevents.
Gonjiam Ceramic Park (Until May 15)
Gwangju Royal Ceramic Festival
This year’s festivalin Gwangju (광주) Cityfeatures an exhibition ofroyal ceramics created by seven modern-day royal ceramic s. The captivatingpieces on display assertboth elegance and artistic beauty.

“The artistic world of royal ceramic s forms aseparate category of its own ceramic cultural tradition.”
Seolbong Park (Until May 22)
Icheon Ceramic Festival
The venue in Icheon (이천) City features a ceramic history exhibition that showcases replicas of diversetraditional pottery and earthenware. The heritage of traditional pottery hadbeen on the verge of extinction during the Japanese occupation of the nation.

Exhibition and Experiential Programs
In addition to the exhibition, the festival here also features a ceramic workshop in which visitors of all ages can experience ceramic making.

At the ceramic festival inYeocheon (여천) City, popular events includea dish-smashing contest.

Article2.Gyeonggi Expands Public Vehicle Sharing with Residents (160509-2)
[Anchor’s Headline] Following the successful results of public-vehicle sharing with residents during the past Lunar New Year holiday, Gyeonggi Province began expanded operations of these services on weekends and public holidays.

Jeong (정경순),a social worker, wanted to takeher children ona therapeutic family camping trip. She almost gave up her plan, however, due to car rental costs. Then she heard about the free vehicle rental services of Gyeonggi Province.

“With all my children and luggage, we needed a large vehicle. We are lucky to be able to use exactly what we needed. I am very grateful. My children will benefit greatly from this trip.”
‘Happy Car Share’– Free Use of Public Vehicles while Not in Use
Titled ‘Happy Car Share’ services, the full operation of these free public vehicle rental services for residents began on May 5. For these services, 100 vehicles were made available on weekends and public holidayswhen they are not being used for official purposes. Users are also provided with freeadmissiontoprovincial museums and other public tourist facilities.

“In addition to families with more than one child, we also plan to expand the service to include multicultural families and North Korean defectors through ordinance amendment.”
‘Happy Car Share’ to be Expanded to 31 Localities
Upon amendment of the related ordinances, the 31 regional administrations of the province will join in local operations of the Happy Car Share services.
Article3.Gyeonggi Province’s “SME with Good Prospects” Designation (160510-3)
[Anchor’s Headline] Gyeonggi Province’s “SME with Good Prospects” designation tem and the associated support programs have proven effective in helping the designated enterprises strengthen their foundations for growth.

This enterprise,which specializes in electric heating tems, was designated as an“SME with Good Prospects” by Gyeonggi Province in 2010. Since then, this company has achieved remarkable results in international marketing.

Sales Increased 50% with Heightened Brand Imaging
The “SME with Good Prospects” designation hasprovided significant advantages in marketing and enhanced the image of this enterprise. Its sales haveincreased 50% since designation, which is the precisepurpose of this tem.

33 Incentives Provided to SMEs with Good Prospects
Those enterprises designated as SMEs with Good Prospects are provided with 33 types of benefitsincluding priority treatment in financial applications andother business supports. Such incentives help the receivingenterprises establishfoundations for further growth.
Article4.Gyeonggi Hosts International Game Show‘PlayX4’(0512-3)
[Anchor’s Headline] On May 19, the international game show‘PlayX4’ is slated to open at KINTEX of Gyeonggi Province for a four-day run. This expo will feature the newest developments in the game industry as well as a large number of industry representatives from around the world.
Previously named ‘Good Game Show Korea’, this show attracted more than 350 game enterprises from 16 nations as well asover 66,000 visitors last year.
Futuristic Game Expo `PlayX4`
This year, the show has changed its name to the futuristic ‘PlayX4’.

“This will be a comprehensive show comprised of online and video games as well as arcade games. We plan to develop the show into a world-calibergame show.”
Comprehensive Next Generation Game Show
While previous events focused primarily on functional games, this year’s event will be a more comprehensive, international-scale, next-generation expothat showcases a variety of new technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality. It will also include many entertaining programs for families and individuals of all ages.
Number Business Representatives Double
This show is also a bigger businessevent than was previously the case with the number of overseas buyers and game distributor representatives doubling from 110 last year to over 200 this year.
4 Iranian Computer & Video Game Association Members to Participate
For the first time, this year’s show will see the participation of four Iranian game enterprises. Iranian enterprises can engage in international business activities now that economic sanctions have been lifted. There will also be many other major game enterprises from China, Japan and Europe participatingin this year’s show.
Gyeonggi Province plans to develop PlayX4 into a leading game show in Korea as well as a primary game industry marketplacein Asia.

Showcasinggames and technologies of the future,PlayX4 will run from May 19 to 22 at KINTEX in Goyang (고양) City.
Article5.Gyeonggi Launches Home CleanerGroup (160503-2)
[Anchor’s Headline] Gyeonggi Province recently launched a home-cleaner group, titled Ggalggeumi (깔끄미), for individuals with serious disabilities and those in low-income brackets.The members of this group are themselvesusers of the rehabilitation service.

This project has the dual purpose of assisting physically challengedindividuals with home-cleaning tasks while providing job opportunities to those who are registered at rehabilitation centers but capable of working. These workers will be accompanied by home-cleaning mentors during their first year of apprenticeship.

“We will teach every aspectof home cleaning such as the use of cleaning agents, equipment and methods as well as how to achieve cleanliness more effectively and quickly.”
Employment and Economic Independence of Workers
Through this project, the workers are provided with employment opportunitieswhile they hone cleaning skills that can be used later for their economic independence as professional cleaners.

“I am happy with this project. It helps me organize myself, too,which is what is really rewarding.”
This year, the home-cleaning project will start with 127 cleaners. More than 2,000 homes will benefit from their work.

“The purpose of this project is to improve the living environments of service recipients while enabling the workers to learn new skills for future employment or self-employment.”
Those households that require home-cleaner group services may submit their requests to a local rehabilitation center.
Article6.Gyeonggi Museum Opens ‘The Little Prince’ Exhibition (160509-3)
[Anchor’s Headline] As a commemorative event for the 130th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Korea and France, Gyeonggi Provinceis hosting anexhibitionof ‘The Little Prince’that showcases memorabilia of its creator,Saint Exupéry (생텍쥐페리),as well as visual depictions of this famous novel.

Such visual depictions includereproductions of the stars to which the Little Prince traveled and other celestial residences of characters in the novel. Visitors are transported into the world of the novel as they pass eachplace,listening to the story in each //

“I appreciatedthis exhibition more than my children did. It becomes more difficult to internally visualize my thoughts as I grew older, but this exhibition made it easy and I felt as if I was inside the novel. I liked it a lot.”
130thAnniversary Event for Korea-France Relations
In addition to photos and personal keepsakes of Saint Exupéry, this exhibition also features a model of the airplane that he was flying duringthe last moments of his life and a special space that showcases the life of this French novelist.

Special Corner for Visitors with Visual Impairments
There is another corner specially designed for visitors with visual impairments. This corner, whichfeatures plaques in brailleas well astouchable objects, was meant to honor the words of the Little Prince: “What you see is not all that is.”

“This is the first time we held an exhibition for both the general public and those with visual impairments, and the first time to showcase a novel and its creator. You can appreciate all these without having to go to Paris.”
‘The Little Prince’ exhibition of the Saint Exupéry Foundation will continue until September at the Gyeonggi Provincial Museum.
Article7.Gyeonggi ProvinceForges Ties with South Cheolla Province (160510-1)
[Anchor’s Headline] On May 9, Gyeonggi Province and South Cheolla (전라) Province entered a general cooperation agreement. South Cheolla (전라) Province became the third second-tier government of Koreato sign suchan agreement with Gyeonggi Province.

Gyeonggi Province–Gyeonggi Province General Cooperation Agreement
Under this agreement, which was signed atthe Pangyo (판교) Startup Campusby the governors of both provinces, nine joint projects were initially selected for cooperative endeavors.

Solar Power Plant Project
One notable project is the construction of a solar power plant in Gyeonggi Province. This plant will alleviate the province’s reliance on energy fromSouth Cheolla (전라) Province.

[CG]Other joint projects include dormitoryconstruction for South Cheolla (전라) students, joint overseas office establishments, the sharing of commercial research resources,and the utilization of South Cheolla (전라) farm products in school meals.

“I am particularly interested in the projects for dormitory construction for our students, youth exchanges,and SME technology development. I hope our cooperative relationscan expand continuously.”
Gyeonggi Province will continue forging cooperative relations with other second-tier governments.

“We only included items that can be realized in the agreements. We will work hard to realize the projects that we already have (with Gangwon and Jejuprovinces) and those that we will have in the future,”
Such cooperation in mutually beneficial projects will have synergistic effects forthe development of both provinces.
