Good Game Show Korea, a globally unique functional game show hosted by the Gyeonggi Contents Agency, opens in Gyeonggi Province this month. This international game show will be held at KINTEX in Goyang (고양) Cityfor threedays running from May 23rd.

With this year marking the 6th such event,the Good Game Show, which began as the Gyeonggi Functional Game Festival in 2009, hasbeen augmented with new categories each year, and has now grown into a large event featuringcomprehensive gaming contents.
Showcase for Game Contents and New Games
In addition to functional games, the gaming contents to be showcased at the show will include mobile games andvirtual games,as well as other contents for educational, therapeutic and entertainment purposes.
Major Korean and overseas gaming enterprises will also introduce new games prior to their official release.
Experiential Programs and Business Promotion
This year’s show is expected to attract a larger number of families since it featuresa greater variety of experiential programs for all generations.
There willalso be business support facilities for on-site negotiations and transactions among gaming enterprises.
301 Enterprises at 459 Booths
This year’s show will feature 459 booths operated by a total of 301 enterprises including more than one hundred overseas companies.
60,000 Visitors, USD 20 Million in Sales
The organizer expects that the show will attract at least 60,000 visitors and will help realize business deals amounting to USD 20 million.

Article 2.Gyeonggi Launches Universal Design Application Project(0429-2)

The Gyeonggi Provincial Government will launch a Universal Design Application project. Universal design refers to ideas that enable buildings, products and environments to becommonly accessible bythe agedand people with disabilities, as well as people without disabilities.

Sanseong-dong Welfare House, Seongnam City
This welfare house is used by a range of age groups, from young children to senior citizens, as well as by individuals with disabilities. However, there are many hazards in and around the house.
There is no sidewalk for visitors,and visitors have to pass through a parking lot and climb a steep set of stairs to enter the building.
The front road isdangerouslysloped for physically challenged individuals, while the pedestrian crossing is hardly safe for children.

“It’s difficult for old people like me (to pass this section of the road) because of leg pain and the slope. Vehicles come from all directions. That makes it more difficult for us, and perhaps for children, too.”
Gyeonggi Launches Universal Design Trial Application Project
To address such difficulties, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government began a trial universal design applicationproject.

Selected as atrial facility, this welfare house will undergo complete universal design workto ensure the convenience and safety of its users.
Work to Begin in July for Completion in December
The work, which will cost a total of KRW 500 million, will begin in July after the briefing of local residents, and will be completed by the end of this yearat the latest.

“Once the work is completed, users of all ages and genders, including those with disabilities, will be able to use the facility and its amenities (safely and conveniently).”
Recognizing the importance of universal design,Gyeonggi Province has already developed universal designguidelines and ordnances, the first of their kind in Korea.
This first universal designcaseis attractingconsiderable interest since it marks the beginning of the application of such endeavors.
Article 3.Gyeonggi Medical Center Provides Free Periodontal Exams(0430-2)

For the first time among autonomous bodies in Korea, a non-radioactive periodontal examination service is being provided free of charge to pregnant women in Gyeonggi Province. Earlier this year, the provincial government signed a service agreement with CytoGen, a commercial laboratory service provider, for this service.

Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center Pocheon Hospital
The conventional pre-treatment dental examination involving an X-ray examislargely avoidedwhen dealing with pregnant women since it is too risky for unborn children.
This makes it difficult for expectant mothers with gum disease to receive examination and treatment.

“I have had a gum trouble since I got pregnant, but I couldn’t receive proper treatment because dental clinics denied X-ray tests. It’s a bit frustrating.”
Periodontal Examination Service Using Genetic Testsfor Pregnant Women
Gestational periodontal diseases occur in two thirds of pregnant women. They increase the risk for other conditions including premature birth and a low birth weight of the baby.
This non-radioactiveexamination method usesa type of genetic test, which is commonly used for the diagnosis of cancer and new types of influenza, to identify pathogens.

“This method can detect microorganisms among 12 gestational periodontal disease pathogens accurately within 2 or 3 days.”
This bacterial genetic testcan detect periodontal disease safely and enables effective treatment. It alsohelps prevent further diseases that the bacteria may cause.
Based on the test results, patients can receive appropriate treatments and medicationsthat are safe for pregnant women.

“This bacterial genetic test allows us to treat pregnancy-related gum disease easily, which has been difficult due to the risk involved with the X-ray testfor pregnant women.”
After a trial service period at the Pocheon (포천) Hospital that began in May, the free non-X-ray periodontal examination service for pregnant women will be expanded to all six provincial medical center hospitals.
Article 4.Efficient Gyeonggi Living Environment Troubleshooting Team(0428-2)

Since its establishment four years ago, the On-site Team of the Gyeonggi Public Service Center has been a reliable troubleshooter for provincial residents. It has resolveda range of public complaintspertaining to living environments.

Hwaseo-dong, Suwon City
This small intersection in a residential area in Gyeonggi Provinceused to be an extremely dangerous place for both pedestrians and passing vehicles due to a prolonged water leakage.
The problem has now been completely resolved thanks to the provincial On-Site Team.

“The situation was quite dangerous for both pedestrians and vehicles, so I called the public service office to report the situation. They arrived immediately after the call and took quick action.”
It was the On-Site Team that arrived and resolved the situation that had inconvenienced local residents and posed a danger for months.

During the first quarter of this year, the On-Site Team has been mobilized in seventy-five cases, of which sixty-seven have been resolved while the remaining eight cases are being corrected, markinga settlement rate of 89%.

“Since living environmental complaints are directly related to the lives of residents, we endeavor to resolve themas quickly as we can, possibly on the same day, in cooperation with the local administrations.”
1,042 Complaints Resolved since 2010
Mobilized anytime, day or night, the On-Site Team of Gyeonggi Province hassettled 1,042 public complaintsover the past four years, and has been praised for its efficiency in resolving living environment issues.

Article 6.Gyeonggi Invites Foreign Buyers to Business Consultation Event(0430-1)

The Gyeonggi Small and Medium Business Center organized a business consultation event, the 2014 G-Trade Global, so as to promote exportsby small and medium-sized enterprises in the province. Many buyers who participated in this event werefrom the countries that signed free trade agreements with Korea.

The event took place at the Ramada Hotel in Suwon (수원) City on April 30th.
Buyers Invited from 40 Enterprises in 19 Countries
For the event, the center invited potential buyers representing more than forty enterprises in nineteen countries, including Australia and Canada,that signed free trade agreements with Korea. This compareswith five countries last year.
Local enterprises that met the business representatives from FTA partner countrieshaveespecially high hopes since they can offer competitive prices without tariffs.

More than two hundred enterprises from the province participated in this event and took turns inone-on-one business consultations.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Government expects that there will be greater outcomes from this year’s event than fromprevious occasions because there were many buyers with high purchasing power as well as many from FTA partner countries.

Gyeonggi to Organize Business Consultation Events and Exhibitions Overseas
Organizing another business consultation event in Japan next month followed by product exhibitions in India and China, the Gyeonggi Small and Medium Business Center will continue to support industries in the province with the promotion of their exports.
Article 7.Gyeonggi Province Tops Globalization Ratings(140429-3)

Gyeonggi Province was rated best in globalization performance among area-wide autonomous bodies in Korea. Five affiliated autonomous bodies of the province, including the cities of Suwon (수원) and Yongin (용인),were also rated highly.

The ratings were undertaken by the Hansun(한선) Foundation, a political research and education institute.
Gyeonggi Province Tops 2014 Korea Metropolis Globalization Ratings
Befitting the slogan shown in its official logo, ‘Global Inspiration,’Gyeonggi Province was recognized as the Best Overall Area-wide Autonomous Body in Globalization.
Gyeonggi Cities of Suwon, Yongin, Icheon, Goyang and Yangju Awarded High Ratings
The five cities of Suwon (수원), Yongin (용인), Icheon (이천), Goyang (고양) and Yangju (양주) of Gyeonggi Province also ranked highly in the ratings of affiliated autonomous bodies.
The Hansun(한선) Foundation’s ratings are based on measurements utilizing objective data on ninety-four area-wide and affiliated autonomous bodies in Korea.
Extensive International Exchanges
Such high ratings are attributed to the extensive internationaltrade and cultural exchanges that the provincial government has been pursuing.

The Gyeonggi Provincial Governmentwill continue to strengthen its drive for‘Global Inspiration’ through exchanges with partner regions around the world and the promotion of its tourism infrastructure overseas for the advancement of the provincial economy.
