To commemorate the 18th Farmers’ Day, which falls on November 11th, a special ceremony with award presentations to individualsorganizations that contributed to the agricultural advancement was held.

1) Environment-friendly Egg Farm, Anseong City
Established with 3,500 hens 25 years ago, this egg farm has since experienced near-closure several times due to epidemicsbouts of extreme weather.
Steadfastly using only healthy feeds without antibiotics, the farmnow a successful enterprise with its own distribution network.
2) Seo Mi-ok, President of Dume Chuksan
“Our expansion to distribution was simply out of necessity for survival. We no longer have to read the faces of merchants,thatone of the major advantages of operating one’s own distribution business”
With 320,000 hens, this farm’s annual sales now amount to KRW 6 billion,it supplies eggs to 70 large retailers including Nonghyup (농협), the leading agricultural co-operative of Korea.
This farmamong the award recipients at the Farmers’ Day ceremony.
3) 18th Farmers’ Day Ceremony
Awards of merit were presented to individuals who performed exemplary deeds for the advancement of agriculture in Gyeonggi Province.
For the first time this year, there are three women among the award recipients.
Ten citiescounties of Gyeonggi Province also received awards for excellence in agricultural administrative performance.
4) Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-soo
“There are high expectations overseas for agricultural productsKorea. Let’s continue to work hard so that Korea will lead the world in agriculture.”
The Gyeonggi Provincial Government recently announced major agricultural policies including the cultivation of competitive farmers, insurance for the safety of food productsan increase of farmers’ income.
Article 2. Gyeonggi Begins Active Backing of Environmental Industry (1105-2)

The Gyeonggi Provincial Governmentthe Korea Environmental IndustryTechnology Institute signed an agreement on the expansion of provincial support for the environment industry.

1) Waste Recycling Enterprise, Anseong City
This company specializes in recycling waste materials to produce organic solvents used in the production of semiconductordisplay components. Its distilling tower, designedbuilt through its own technology, produces high quality materials with a recycling rate of 70 percent.

“We had considerable supportthe Ministry of Environmentwe worked hard. We also received extensive supportSamsung Electronics. We are now building a new factory solely through our own technology.”
The new factorybeing built in China as a result of supportGyeonggi Province in gaining recognitionthe Chinese government.
3) Environmental Industry Promotion MOU
Under this MOU, whichofficially termed the Environmental Industry Promotion Agreement, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government plans toa study on the status of the environmental industry next year, followeda workshop with the Chinese governmentan environmental job fair.
4) Gyeonggi Province Vice Governor Park Soo-yeong
“The environmental industrya ‘blue ocean’ industry. Together with the Korea Environmental IndustryTechnology Institute, we will help the environmental industry be reborn as a job-creating industry.
With one fourth of the nation’s environmental industry concentrated in its regions, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government will support the industry in its overseas expansion.
Article 3. Digital Games to Aid Primary School Education (1106)

From next year, digital tools featuring games will be used in primary school education in Gyeonggi Province. Pilot education classes began in a primary school in Suwon (수원) City.

In a third grade mathematics class at this primary school, students are learning to draw circles.
Instead of using a compass on a sheet of paper, each student uses a tablet PC to play a game in which they learn the concept of a circlesaving Uncle Decare.

These educational games are expected to draw more student interest in learning promoting the game development industry.
Article 4. Gyeonggi’s Dominanbang Receives 2013 Customer Happiness Award (1104)

Gyeonggi Province’s Visiting Dominanbang (도민안방) public service temthe Governor’s Field Office for Public Complaints receivedhonors at the 2013 Customer Happiness Brand Awards presentedFortune Korea.
Itthe first such award presented to a large autonomous body in Korea.

It has been the policy of Gyeonggi Province to bring its services closer to the publicto seek direct engagement with people in the field.
Through such services, more than 12,000 public applications have been addressed in a wide range of subjects including residential life, employmentwelfare.
1) Governor’s Field Office for Public Complaints Resolved 60 Complaints out of 85
The Governor’s Field Office for Public Complaints, through which the Governor of Gyeonggi Province directly deals with complaints, has achieved remarkable successresolving 60 cases out of 85.
2) Present Age Leader Award
For the first time among large autonomous bodies, Gyeonggi Province was awarded the grand prize, the Present Age Leader Award in the public administration service category of the Customer Happiness Brand Awards.
These awards are presented to organizations that provide excellent productsservices to their customers.
3) Han Tae-seok, Director of the Gyeonggi Province Self-Governance Division

4) Dominanbang to Focus on Isolated RegionsDecember
From December, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government will focus its Dominanbang (도민안방) visiting service on isolated regionseconomically underserved areas.
The field-orientated services of Gyeonggi Province are expected to continue to draw positive interestresidentsto help them resolve problems.
Article 5. Suwon Civil Fire Corps Inauguration (1105)

For the first time in Korea, a large-scale civil firefighting organization consisting of individual regional squads of volunteer firefighters was established in Suwon (수원) City.
Its inauguration ceremony was held at Ajou Universityattendedmembers of the squads as well asthe heads of the provincialcity governments.

At the ceremony, members of the firefighting corps were presented with letters of appointment.
1) 16 Squads of 1,200 Civil Firefighters
The civil firefighting corps of Suwon (수원) City have their origin in the Suwon Regional Civil Firefighting Squad established as far back as in 1945.
This has grown into a giant organization with 1,200 members16 squads covering the entire city.
2) Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-soo
“Civil firefighters often work sideside with fire officers. They also work hard to promote public relations for the fire department.”
3) Assistance in FirefightingRegional Security
The duties of the civil firefighting squads will include assistance in firefighting, rescue operationsemergency deployments as well as regional security.

“We will do our utmost to help fire officials ensure the safety of the citizens of Suwon City.”
In addition to working with civil firefighting squads, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government will provide its fire department with budgetary supportexpanded facilities to ensure the safety of its residents
Article 6. Chinese Tour Planners Experience Gyeonggi Province (1106)

The Gyeonggi Tourism Organization invited Chinese tour planners on a tour of the province.
This tour program was designed especially for Chinese tour operators so as to provide them with hands-on experience in various aspects of Gyeonggi Province.

Consisting of Korean tour planners of Chinese tour operators, the team of Chinese tour specialists visited an indoor winter sports center.

2) Ye Ming Sien, Guangdong Province, China
“It’s really exciting. It will be more fun the whole thing moves.”
The team also visited the Imjingak (임진각) area to learn about the modern history of their neighboring country.

3) Chao Ing Shin, Jiangsu Province, China

4) Experience-orientated Tour Program Highlights Gyeonggi Province
This tour program for Chinese tour planners was designed to highlight the aspects of Gyeonggi Province that can be best appreciated through participationdirect experience rather than simple sightseeing.
5) Yoon Hoom-hee, Gyeonggi Tourism Organization Official

Gyeonggi Province has established formal ties with five Chinese provinces that are geographically close to Korea,plans to expand its exchanges with other regions of China.
Article 7. Gyeonggi Targets Creation of 160,000 New Jobs in 2014

The Gyeonggi Provincial Government announced its 2014 job creation plan which includes a newly expanded job creation target of 160,000 positions as well as a greater number of employment consultants.

The plan includes the facilitation of communication channels between job applicantsenterprises to help resolve employment market mismatches.

A Gyeonggi Province version of the Yozma Fund, a high-tech venture capital fund, as well as a contents industry fund will also be established to support promising new businesses.
