The surrounding old back alleys of the historic fortress Hwaseong∙Haenggung (화성행궁), a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Suwon (수원) City, are slowly emerging as an art town as an increasing number of Korean artists arrive to work there.

This building with a mosaic mural was once threatened with demolition, but has now become a haven for aspiring artists. It was simply named the ‘Haenggung-dong (행궁동) Residence’.

3) Haengung-dong Residency, an Incubator for Resident Artists
Opened in 2009, this artists’ residence houses the studios of twenty four teams of artists representing a variety of genres including painting, sculpture,video art.

With the encouragement of enthusiastic town residents, the walls of the buildings, housespublic structures in the town are also used as canvasartists, resulting in the creation of the Haenggung-dong (행궁동) Mural Town.

Gwacheon (과천) City of Gyeonggi Province was recently designated as an International Safe Communitythe WHO. Itthe second such designation in Gyeonggi Province following Suwon (수원) City.

So far, 285 communities in 31 countries have been designated as safe communitiesthe WHO.

Article 3. Gyeonggi Seeks Specialists’ Services for Communal Building Disputes (131126-3)

There are an increasing number of civil complaints filed at public offices in Gyeonggi Province regarding communal buildings. Complaints are most often raisedresidents of commercialresidential buildings to protect their interests.

To facilitate the settlement of communal building disputes, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government signed an agreement with specialist organizations for their voluntary services.
1) Service Donation Agreement for Communal Building Disputes (November 25th)
The organizations are: the Gyeonggi Central Bar Association, the Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountantsthe Korea Institute of Registered Architects.
2) Specialists to Suggest Customized Solutions
Under the agreement, the specialists will donate their time to review individual casesprovide suggestions for customized solutions.

The bar association will provide advice on legal matters the accountant institute will provide advice on taxationaccounting mattersthe architect institute will cover matters pertaining to building design.
