Ten years have passed since Korea signed its first free trade agreement.
Over the past decade, smallmedium-sized enterprises have had a particularly difficult time adapting to the new business environment.

While free trade agreements have opened up new opportunitiesfor some enterprises, others areconfrontedgreater difficulties due to a lack of resourcesin securing specialized personnelinformation.

To help such enterprises better cope with challengesopportunities, the FTA Utilization Support Centersin Gyeonggi Province have been operating the FTA General Academy.

The education courses of the FTA Utilization Support Center are geared to prepare business people working with overseas partners with better knowledgeskills.

Article 3.Cotton Cloth Painting Exhibition (131120-3)

A painter in Gyeonggi Province recently opened an exhibition of her artwork which was drawnon canvas or paper but instead on roughcotton cloth. A GTV reporter was there.

The trunk of a pine tree with a turtleback patternas vividrealistic as the red flowers of water lilies.
All of these pictures were drawn on rough cotton cloth, a coarsely woven materialtraditionally used for more practical purposes than clothing.
Invoking the past, the characteristic tintstexture of the rough cotton cloth adds the aura of traditional oriental paintings.

Titled ‘Painting on Gwangmok (광목)’, this exhibitionartist Jang Ye-ja (장예자) at the Osan (오산) arboretum drew the interest of many visitors.

“Paintings on cloth are quite unusual. They conveyed different feelings to me since they have more texture. The painter used subjects that are familiar to us, so viewing was comfortable.”
Some of the subjects include cushions, pouchesother items that can easily be seen around us. All of the pieces as well as the pictures drawn on them are of a traditional Korean style.

“I wanted to tell the public that anything, such as gwangmok, can be used as an art subject. Anyone can artwork using things around us.”
Rough cotton cloth was also used as a drawing canvassome artists during theJoseon (조선) Dynasty. Like Jang (장), they generallypresentedeveryday subjects such as flowersplants as well as landscapespeople’s lives.

Article 4.Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale Ends(1118-3)

The Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale ended with great success, drawing a large number of visitors during its 51-day run.

Although this year’s biennale started with a smaller budget than the previous event, the number of visitors doubled to nearly 200,000.

The proceedsentrance fees, which amounted to almost KRW 2.3 billion, will be reinvested in ceramic industry development projects.
Seven hundredseventy nine ceramic artistsaround the world were invited to this international event, which has become a showcase of international trends in modern ceramic art.
In addition to the main international event, exhibitions of rising young artistsaround the worldthe international ceramic workshop were deemed to have broadened the spectrum of this ceramic biennale in Korea.
3) Various Programs for Visitors
The great increase in the number of visitors this yearattributed to various entertainingeducational programs for the public, including the Kids Biennale, as well as other programs for families.
This year’s biennale showed great potential for the popularization of ceramic art.

The organizers of the Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale plan to incorporate additional means of promoting Korean ceramic culture during subsequent events continuing to leadworld ceramic arttrends.

As the first anniversary of the 18th presidential election approaches, the ruling party of Korea organized regional open forums to review progress regarding the regional campaign pledges it made during the election.

For the first time in Korea, the ruling party organized Regional Commitment Implementation Special Committees to oversee the regional reviews.

Eight major ments were discussed at the Gyeonggi Province forum.

The Gyeonggi Council on Social Welfare has taken over operation of the service for the next two years using funds of KRW 810 million donatedE-Mart.
4) Gyeonggi Province Vice Governor Park Soo-young
“I hope that a servicethis willend up as an occasional instance, but instead continue so that many individuals can benefititenjoy warm winters.”
From this month, the Hope Delivering Carriage will visit the 31 citiescounties of Gyeonggi Province, delivering gifts of hope to those who fall in the blind spots of the social welfare tem.
An estimated 25,000 households are expected to receive donated goods through this service over the next two years.
