A group of Korean-Japanese children visited Gyeonggi Province to experience the cultural tradition of their mother country. A GTV reporter was there.

1) Yewon Primary School, Hwaseong
In this primary school in Hwaseong (화성), a number of students gathered in a gymnasium in the middle of the summer vacation. About half of them are guest studentsJapan whose parents are Koreans. They speak different languageeven their nationalitydifferent, yet they are quick to mingle with their host studentsplay with them to learn traditional Korean children’s plays.

“We plan to developimplement on-going exchange programs between children of KoreaJapan. Such programs will also have positive effects on future relations between the two countries.”
These Korean-Japanese students will stay in Korea until the 28th of August, familiarizing themselves with the country of their parents.
Article 3. Solar Powered Welfare Facilities (0821_3)

During this summer, the Gyeonggi Provincial Administration has been installing solar power generators at a number of welfare facilities in the province. The purposeto save the consumption of electricity as well as the cost of energy usedthese facilities.

This senior citizens center isunlike other senior centers, but it has its own power plant, on the roof.
2) Great Saving in Electricity Consumption
The solar power generators, such as this one, can generate more than enough electricity needed for coolingheating the house. The heat wave isa concern to seniors at this center.

Article 4. Electricity Saving Policy of Gyeonggi Province Works (0819-1)

The suspension of operation of three nuclear reactors for preventive safety inspections led the provincialthe local governments of Gyeonggi Province to launch aggressive energy saving measures in June. The results show great success. Many regions were found to have used less electricity compared to the same period last year.

1) Gyeonggi Planned 20% Reduction of Energy Consumption
The Gyeonggi Provincial Administration began implementing extensive measures aiming to save the provincial energy consumption20 percent. To set an example,public offices cut the operation of their air-conditioning tems. Officials have been using fanscool mats instead. Operation of air cooling tems with doors open in shopscommercial buildings was also discouraged. A campaign was launched for a target 100 kilowatt saving per household.
2) Electricity Consumption Decreased in 27 out of 31 CitiesCounties
According to the government statistics, the electricity consumption decreased in 27 out of 31 citiescounties of Gyeonggi Province during July compared to the same period last year.

Gwangmyeong (광명) City saw a staggering 32 percent decrease of electricity consumption, Suwon (수원) city achieved a 22 percent saving.

“It was a great success. Five citiescounties achieved more than 30% reduction in their energy consumption. We will continue to lead the energy consumption initiative to prevent an energy crisis.”
The summer energy saving measures will continue until theof August. The Gyeonggi Provincial Administration also plans to promote the usage of high-efficiency illumination tubesthermal exchange tems for further energy saving.
Article 5. Gyeonggi Bested in Korea Crafts Competition (0820-1)

The handcrafts of Gyeonggi Province achieved the overall win, in the group category, of this year’s Korea Crafts Competition, marking the fourth consecutive year in doing so.

His adoption of the beauty of old as well as modern functionality has received high appraisal in the competition. Other crafts of Gyeonggi Province are also recognized highly throughout the nation.
4) Yoon Joong-hwan / Chief Officer, Gyeonggi Province Business Incubation Team
“Gyeonggi Province participated in the competition with 48 craftworks,33 of them received awards, making the province the first ever to achieve the overall win for four consecutive years.”
Such a remarkable achievement can be attributed to the craftsmen in the province who devoted their lives to the continuation of traditional arts.
Article 6. Leafhoppers Hit Korean Rice Paddies

Leafhoppers, or rice insects, were found spreading over the rice fields in Korea for the first time in 16 years. All local administrations were brought to alert,began taking immediate control measures.

Warm weatherlots of sunshine has been providing ideal condition for the ripening of rice ears. However, farmers are out to inspect rice plants with concern. They just heard that rice insects have been foundfartheir rice fields.

The growth of rice insects increases twice as fast when the temperature rose25 degrees to 30 degrees. Experts say that these insects arethe indigenous species last seen in 1997,suspect that that were brought hereChina.
