The members of ‘The Engineering Relief Team’ of Gyeonggi Province are particularly busy this time of year, since there are a large number of public facilities damagedheavy rainfall that cause inconveniencemay pose a safety threat. GTV’s Choi Chang-soon (최창순) followed the team.

This emergency engineeringrepair team are on call at a 24/7 Public Service Center. To a calla citizen, the members of the team respond immediately,are already on their way. A large hole has been d in the road due to weakened soil underneath. An emergency repairperformed to avoid possible accidents.

Nearly ninety percent of calls are related to roadstraffic, followedthose concerning water supplysewage temswelfare facilities. The ‘Engineering Relief Team’ has so far completed 106 major public safety-related repair works for the first half of this year,they plan to increase the number to more than one case per day.

Article 2. Campsites Gain Popularity in Gyeonggi Province (0730-1)

Are you up fora memorable experience during the summer holiday season? How about joining other campers on a mountain? There are; an increasing number of campsites newly developed in Gyeonggi Province to do just that.

Workstill in progress to build a new caravan camp site in this scenic retreat that overlooks a picturesque lake below a wall of dense mountain forest. Unlike usual caravan camp sites that cater for camping cars, this camp siteequipped with a number of ready-made stationary caravans of modified trailers for rent, each complete with a kitchena bathroom

An auto camp site nearby also offers everything campers may needtents to cooking utensils. The campsites such as this one are very popular because campers arerequired to bring any camping equipment with them.

There were only thirty camp sites in Gyeonggi Province only two years ago, but the number increased dramatically. Now, there are eighty camp sites in this part of the province alone. Most of them are built in secluded locationsvisitors can feel nature more closely.

Furnished campsites are emerging as one of the major summering locations among nature lovers, especially in Gyeonggi Province
Article 3. Gyeonggi – North Gyeongsang Provinces Win-Win Agreement (0730-3)

The governments of Gyeonggi ProvinceNorth Gyeongsang (경상) Province signed an agreement for mutual cooperationexchanges in the fields of culture, tourism,support for smallmedium-sized enterprises.

1) Gyeonggi – North Gyeongsang Provinces Win-Win Agreement
This agreementthe fifth of such agreement that the Gyeonggi Provincial Government entered with other larger autonomous bodies in Korea. The fourth was with South Cholla (전라) Province agreement signed in May this year.

“We hope to be able to build a framework for cooperation between larger autonomous bodies,to form a foundation on which to visible outcomes that can be recognizedour residents…
The first cooperative between the two provincial governments under this agreement will focus on the successful hosting of culturaltourism projects, the ‘Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale’ of Gyeonggi Provincethe ‘Istanbul-Gyeongju(경주) World Cultural Expo’ of North Gyeongsang (경상) Province. There will also be exchanges in Confucius culture between Shilhak (실학) Museumthe ‘Korean Studies Advancement Center’.
Cooperation in the economic sector will include the promotion of smallmedium industrieseco-friendly agricultural industries through exhibitionsother promotional activities,the exchanges of industrial promotion teams during such events.

“We will cooperate with each other to provide local industries with customized support to help them do their businessesgrowthemselves…”
The two provincial governments agreed to form an utive tee to discuss ways to implement each item of the agreement.
Article 4. Cheonji Jindong Festival (0729-2)

July the 27th marked the sixtieth anniversary of signing the Armistice Agreement during the Korean War. To commemorate the occasionto wish for the settlement of peace, a ceremonial festival was held in Paju (파주) City.

The fourth ‘Fusion ScienceTechnology School’ opened sponsoredthe Gyeonggi Provincial Administration. Many aspiring young would-be scientists participated in the two-day science education program.

In one classroom, young students try out their skills in remote controlling a robot, named NAO, in another room, others are intent on creating functional computer games. They are the participating youths in the ‘Fusion ScienceTechnology School’ organizedthe ‘Fusion ScienceTechnology Institute’ of ‘Seoul National University’ to inspire the dreams of science among youths.

The most popular program of the school was the ‘Fusion Science Non-sense Quiz Contest’, which was held at theof the schedule to test the knowledge that the students acquired during the two-day program.

Itobvious that this education program was an opportunity for some participating students to come closer to their dreams of becoming fusion scientists.

‘The Fire Service Academy’ of Gyeonggi Province recently opened a ‘119 Experiencing Camp for Children’ to promote the development of a sense of safetycaring for others.

While experiencing various gadgetstraining drills, such as rope ladder climbingwall climbing, children learn to overcome their fearsdevelop self-confidence.
2) Kim Tae-hwan / Sixth Grader, Galmae Primary School
“I did both wall climbingrope ladder climbing. They weren’t easy, but it was a good experience. I know now how hard a firefighters’ work is.”
This summer camp consisted of various programs in which children learn basic skills required to become a firefighterrescuer, such as CPRwall climbing. They also learned about the sense of dutyhow to work together with their friends

“I believe that, through this program, children could learn how to preventcope with dangerous situationscarry their knowledge throughout their lives.”
The participating children had a wonderful time they learned about the value of life, as well as the importance of safety, cooperation,caring for others.

The residents of ‘Ulmi (울미) Lotus Village’ specialize in developingcultivating lotus breeds. Their products are sold throughout the nation through a flower markettheir 35,000 square kilometers of lotus paddy attracts many visitorsoutside.

The Gyeonggi Provincial Administration has introduced the ‘Village Creation Projects’ to promote the utilization of local resourcesthe creation of villages with special characteristics.
3) Lee Han-gang / Village Chief, Pocheon Ulmi Lotus Village
“We need facilitiesprograms to allow visitors to enjoy our lotus flowers. One of the foremost projectsthe installation of deck roads that offer the best view of the flower paddy as well as healthy promenades.”
This village has already constructed a scenic circular walkway around the villagean artificial lake nearby to attract tourists.

The ‘Village Creation Projects’ of Gyeonggi Province also include a number of other villages in the province, each carrying an ambitious project that will hopefully allow the village to be reborn as a specialized village of its own characteristics.
