Article 1. Rare Plant ‘Climbing Gentian’ (0715-2)

Climbing Gentian, a small plant with bell-shaped purple flower,extremely difficult to breed,is one of the registered endangered species of Korea. The ‘Gyeonggi Forest Environment Research Institute’, however, recently succeeded in breeding this rare flowering plant, which only grows in mountain regions.

In this botanical garden, among many different subtropical plantsferns, plants of one particular species are drawing more interestchildren. They are Climbing Gentian.
1) First Public Showing of Climbing Gentian
Unlike other gentian species, these grow crawling on rocksother plants. Very rarefound only in remote islands, climbing gentian has been defying artificial breeding.

The successful breeding of climbing gentianattributed to the patented in-vitro culturing technology developed in 2010the institute. The ‘Gyeonggi Forest Environment Research Institute’also working on the breeding of other rare species including some medicinal plants

Climbing gentians are currently on public display in a forest garden in Osan (오산); they will also appear in another forest garden in Yeo∙ju (여주)next week.
 
Article 2. Laundry Service for People with Disabilities (0716-1)

The first free laundry house for individuals with disabilities in Gyeonggi Province, titled ‘Heehee Laundry Service’,scheduled to open in Bu∙cheon (부천) in September. This laundry house will provide one-stop laundry servicesthe collection to the delivery of laundry for physically challenged individuals.

Established in Seoula private volunteer service organization in 2010, this laundry housethe conceptual origin of the ‘Heehee Laundry Service’. Recognizing its success, the Gyeonggi Provincial Administration decided to invite its operator to establish a similar service in the province.
2) Heehee Laundry Service Agreement
An agreement was signed between the provincial government, the ‘Young∙san (영산) Foundation’ – the mind of this service,the ‘Gyeonggi Association of Persons with Physical Disabilities’, for the establishment of similar laundry houses in thirty-one citiescounties of the province

According to the agreement, ‘Young∙san (영산) Foundation’ will bear the entire cost of the establishment, the association will take over the operationthe provincial government will provide administrativepromotion support.

This laundry service will also be open to those in low-income bracketssolitary seniors. The general public will also be able to use its service after 6 pmduring weekendsholidays.  
Article 3. Customized Agricultural Projects for Agricultural Coops (0717-2)

The ‘Gyeonggi Provincial Administration’ has been devisinginitiating customized profit-generating business projects for farmers, to help them with their effort to find a breakthroughconventional rice farming that generates a limited income.

This cooperative factoryoperating in full capacity to produce environment-friendly food products including rice cookies using rice, beans,other grains producedits members.
It was established in 2008 as one of the customized agricultural projects initiatedthe provincial government as a supplementary income-generating business solution.
2) Jeon Dae-gyeong / Chairman of Mideum Agricultural Cooperative
“We are able to secure a stable market for rice because we have the control over the usage of surplice rice production. It encouraged more farmers to joinhelped stabilize the prices of our produce.”
This cooperative now consists of 140 rice farmers who enjoy a stable income. It also d twenty new jobs. Its business has grown considerably since its establishment,now has a number of large distributorsenterprises as its customers.
3) Customized Agricultural Projects
The implementation of these agricultural projects, including the construction of productionauxiliary facilities,also supportedthe provincial government.
4) Lee Gwan-gyu / Gyeonggi Province Eco-friendly Agricultural Development Team Leader
“We will continue to focus on the development of local specialty products combining the primarysecondary industries.”
During this year, the ‘Gyeonggi Provincial Administration’ will launch thirty customized agricultural business projects, in seventeen citiescounties in the province.
 
Article 4. A Five-star Hotel Opens in Yeo∙ju(0716_3)

A new landmark of Yeo∙ju (여주) County of Gyeonggi Province opened on the 13th of this month. Ita five-star hotela fabulous water park, ‘Sun Valley’, which the Gyeonggi Provincial Government induced to boost the local economy in this area.

1) A Five-star Hotel Sun Valley Found Home in Yeoju
Yeo∙ju (여주) has been one of the lesser tourist attractions in Gyeonggi Province. Unlike other citiescounties of the province, it also lacked hotel accommodations of high caliber. This hotelits water park will now play an important role in the development of tourism in this region.
With 203 guestrooms on its 12 floors as well as a large all-year-round indooroutdoor water park, it will attract an estimated 200,000 visitors annually. In addition to 200 new jobs, itexpected to have a significant effect on the local economy.

This hotelthe result of persistent effort of Yeo∙ju (여주) Citythe Gyeonggi Provincial Government to induce it into this region. Persuasion of the central government for the enactment of the ordnance for tax benefits for high standard hotels also played a part.
3) Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-soo
“When it comes to support with tax benefits, our government tends to focus only on manufacturing industries, ignoring hotels. Thatwhy our tourism has been lagging behind.”
The Gyeonggi Provincial Administration plans to devise a variety of familiarizing tour events involving the Sun Valley Hotel, to promote tourism in the Southeastern regions of the province.
 
Article 5. Technology Development Project of Gyeonggi Province (0715_3)

1) Technology Development Project of Gyeonggi Province Produced Positive Results
Since it began in 2008, the technology development project of Gyeonggi Province has made positive results in promoting high-performance enterprisescreating new jobs.
The technology development project of Gyeonggi Province focuses on supporting smallmedium-sized industries in researchdevelopment to help them realize commercialization of their technologies of high potential.
Since its launch in 2008, technology development support in 114 subjects has been completed. A total of 23 billion Korean won was spent on this support, resulting in the realization of 77 billion won in sales, a cost reduction of 2.3 billion won,the creation of 595 new jobs.
For this year’s technology development support, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government finally ed 43 subjects for which development has already begun.
2) 5.4 billion Korean Won to Be Provided for Technology Development Support
These technology subjects have been carefully ed through three stages beginninginvitation in March. The 43 subjects include 23 in open categories, 8 in industrial innovation, 6 in industrial technology,6 in technology developmententerprises in northern Gyeonggi Province. A total 5.4 billion Korean will be granted for technology development in these subjects.
The beginning of the provincial government’s technology development support was markeda briefing on the utilization of the grant given to 200 representatives of enterprisesprovincial officials on the 12th of this month.
The demand for researchdevelopment (R&D) supportgrowing steadily as shownthe competitive rate of 4.3 to 1.
A Gyeonggi Province spokesperson said that an invitation for application for researchdevelopment (R&D) support will be announced again in August to include more enterprises for support.

Summer traffic problems are an annual feature in Korea, often turning vacationing into a nightmare. To ease traffic problem during summer holiday season, the Gyeonggi Provincial Administration will implement special measures during the periodJuly 25th until August 11th.
2) YeongdongWest Coast Expressways Will Be Hardest Hit
Yeong∙dong (영동) ExpresswayWest Coast Expressway, in particular, as well as some of the major national roads are expected to be hardest hitholiday traffics.
Since there will be additional number of buses operating during this period, it will be one of the good choices to use buses.

The second full session of the 280th regular meeting of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council was held on July 16th.

During this meeting, the council elected Kim Gyoeng-ho (김경호) as the speakerYim Chae-ho (임채호) as vice speaker for the second half term. Kim was electedsecuring 76 votes out of 106Yimsecuring 80 votes
