The mobile research institute of Samsung Electronics, the R5, opened at Samsung’s ‘Digital City’ in Suwon with a ceremony for marking the move into the newly constructed institute held on June 10th.

This mobile technology instituteSamsung’s fifth research institute, hence the R5. Completed after twoa half years of construction, its main buildinga 32-story twin tower with gross area of 300,000 square meters. This research institute will be the research headquarters of Samsung Electronics which will lead the second era of world mobile communication technologies.

“We also have separate facilities in which we can jointly work with our partners for special developmentexperiments. Our mobile research institute will be the birth place of creativeinnovative products.”
Samsung expects the R5 to a synergy effect in R&D through the integration of functional buildings for research,experiments that are interconnected.
3) Over 10,000 New Jobs
The newest facilities will house 35,000 personnel including 10,000 new employees. The number of researchers will be more than 25,000.

2. ConsumptionAged Population Slows (0611-2)

According to the results of a study conductedthe ‘Gyeonggi Research Institute’, consumptionolder generations over fifty years of age has been in decline. The study also suggested that more consumptionthe elderly population correlates to a higher overall employment rate.

According to the findings of the study, a three percent increase in the consumptionthose in their middlesenior ages would result in thirty thousand more employments in Korea.

The individuals with age 50 or higher accounted for 30.9 percent of the total Korean population in 2003. While this ratio increased12.4 percent to 43.3 percent in 2012, the proportion of expenditurethis age group decreased significantly during the same period.

As one of the solutions to address the situation, the study suggested the application of reverse mortgage conceptspromoting the dynamic utilization of assets for profit generation to help aged individuals improve their consumption power.
4) Working Silver Policy
The study also suggested a so called “Working Silver Policy” which involves the mobilization of a variety of socialeconomic organizations to guarantee employmentincome for old individuals.

The most popular insects among children are garden crickets because of their beautiful songs. Garden crickets are also popular pet insects.

The insect exhibitionpart of Farm Experience Program organizedthe ‘Gyeonggi Agricultural ResearchExtension Services. The exhibition features specimens of a variety of insects including those of endangered species as well as many live insects rarely seenchildrencities.

4. Gyeonggi Began Intercepting Harmful Mobile Contents (0610-1)

The Gyeonggi Provincial Administration launched a program that aims to intercept mobile contents of an overly violentsexual nature before they reach juveniles.

Hana working mom with a teenage son. She regularly uses the ‘Smart Sheriff’ application program to check or intercept the attempts madeher son to access harmful contents through his mobile phone.

2) Cyber Anshim Zone Cooperation Agreement (June 7th)
The Gyeonggi Provincial Administration signed a cooperation agreement with four organizations including the Korea Communication Committee,plans to launch the ‘Smart Sheriff’ program,has already begun a pilot operation covering the students of fifty schools.

4) Smart Phone Addiction Prevention Function to Be Added
In addition to intercepting the harmful contents, this program will also include a statistic function that will provide information necessary for the prevention of smart phone addiction.

“We will encourage youths to share their access information with their parents to prevent addictive use of smart phones.”
Nearly two thirds of youths in Korea have a smart phone,estimated half of them are thought to have experienced accessing adult content through their phones. This cooperation agreement will hopefully promote healthy use of smart phones among youths.
5. Vibrio Sepsis Alert during Summer (0611-1)

The first finding this year of bacteria in genus vibrio which causes the deadly vibrio sepsis, was reported in Pyeongtaek (평택) in Gyeonggi Province on 20th of May. Our reporter examined the details.

Fishery markets at this time of year are abundant with fresh seafood. However, consumers must be extra careful, especially when they consume seafood raw.
2) Vibrio Sepsis Bacteria Proliferates in June – September

4) Infection via Consumption of Contaminated Sea Food or Open Wounds
One can be infected with vibrio sepsis bacteriaconsuming the infected seafood orbeing exposed to them via open wounds. The fatality of the infected patient can be as high as 50 percent. Experts say the immune-compromised patients are particularly vulnerable.

6. Good Price Restaurants (0613-2)

The Gyeonggi Provincial Administration has added more restaurants to its list of designated ‘Good Price Restaurants’.

Thisa Korean home food-style restaurant. The price for the meal with preserved crab was reduced to less than half the previous price but the tastethe same as before. This restaurantnow enjoying non-stop operation at full capacity.
2) Sung Jo-hwa / Hwaseong Resident
“The quality of the preserved crabvery good. You can’t find good foodthis at such low price. I am a regular here.”
The price for the lunch special menu was also reduced to five thousand Korean won. Thisone of the ‘Good Price Restaurants’ newly designatedthe Gyeonggi Provincial Administration.

4) 964 ‘Good Price Restaurants’ in Gyeonggi Province
With 104 new designations this year, there are now 964 ‘Good Price Restaurants’ in Gyeonggi Province. The restaurants designated as ‘Good Price Restaurant’ are provided with many incentivesthe Gyeonggi Provincial Administration such as trash bag supportlower loan interest.

7. Healing Camp for Firefighters with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (0613-1)

Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)common among firefighters because they are frequently exposed to traumatic experiences. For treatment of these firefighters, a special healing camp was established in a forest park in Gyeonggi Province.

”I couldn’t sleep. My heart throbbed always. My entire body fell ill. It lasted quite a long time though I received treatment.”
What lasted can be the image of a dying colleague or being unable to help someone in a fatal situation. Whatever their painful memory is, they had to keep responding to emergency calls.
4) Joint Effort with National Natural Recreation Forest Office Gyeonggi Fire Services
The ‘Gyeonggi Province Fire Service’the ‘Korea Forest Service’ agreed on joint endeavors for the operation of healing camps for firefighters. The Forest Office will provide camp sites in forest parksfirefighters receive treatmentstress consultation services.
