1. 250th Anniversary of the Death of Late Korean Scholar Lee Ik (0603-1)

Lee ik (이익) was a forerunner in the academic circles of the18th-Century Choseon Dynasty of Korea, who recognized the necessity for the opening of the nation to Western culture. A special exhibitionbeing held to re-illuminate his philosophyachievements.

1) First Encyclopedia in Choseon Dynasty
Lee Ik (이익) was an author of an academic book that contains a collection of free-style notes which he wrote over forty three years. It was considered the first encyclopedia writtena Korean.
2) Special Exhibition on 250th Anniversary of the Death of Lee Ik (~ August 18th)
This exhibition was organized to commemorate the 250th anniversary of his death.

“We organized this exhibition to expose the scientific interestresearch contents of Lee Ik to the public in such a way that everyone can easily understand.”
The overall theme of the exhibitionthe communication of Lee ik(이익)’s global ideology whichstrongly emphasized in the present society, but was almost taboo in his day.
4) First Korean Modern Scientist
Leethe first modern scientist in Korea who recognized the sphericity of the Earthdrew a world map himself based on his belief. Among many scientific works of his, the graphic illustration of the science of divination, which he drew with his followers, was disclosed to public for the first time at this exhibition.

“I found Lee Ik was truly a Practical scientist of a pioneering, open mind.”
This exhibition will be open at Silhak (실학) Museum in Namyangju (남양주) until August 18th.

2. Promotion of Traditional Markets (0605-3)

The Gyeonggi Provincial Administration organized a Traditional Market User Group in its effort to revive the livelihood of traditional markets.

Traditional markets such as this one in Anyang (안양) City are struggling to survive the competition posedlarge supermarkets,their futuregrowing darker every year.

At the inauguration ceremony for the Market User Group, which consists of academyprivate enterprises, a declaration was adopted to extend cooperation for supporting the traditional markets in product developmentdistribution as well as salesmarketing.

“We will do our utmost to improve the competitiveness of the traditional markets so that they can attract more young consumers.”
The Gyeonggi Provincial Government has been implementing various other programs to promote traditional markets for years.

3. Design Support for Small Enterprises (0605-1)

There are many small enterprisesdesigncrucial for marketing their products. However, most of these companies dohave enough resources for costlytime-consuming design processes. To address such problems, the Gyeonggi Provincial Administration launched the ‘Gyeonggi Design Sharing Project’ jointly with universities.

4. Successful Hosting of the World Racing Tour (0603-3)

The Korea Match Cup of the World Racing Tourthe Gyeonggi Marine Festival ended on June 9th after nine days of dramaspectacles. The winner’s cup of the sailing competition went to the French team, whichunexpected, the festival was visitedmore than 160,000 spectators.

With more than 160,000 visitors for a five-day festivity, the Gyeonggi Marine Festival became the representative marine festivals of the Korean west coast.

The orchestra has been visiting schools of disabled, military bases, prisons,isolated regions, to provide those who are culturally isolated with an opportunity to appreciate musichave emotional comfort. Ithoped that this visiting performance will also have a positive effects on the minds of these youngsters.

7. The Korea International Boat Show (0603-2)

The Korea International Boat Show which was held simultaneously with the Gyeonggi Marine Festival, but held in KINTEX in Goyang (고양) City ended afterattracted more than thirty thousand visitorsachieving over thirty million Dollar worth of transactions.
