Article 4. Gyeonggi Livestock Products Proven Safe (0311-3)

The safety standard of livestock products of Gyeonggi Province was found to be at its highest rate since 2007. The Gyeonggi Provincial Government has strengthened the inspection of livestock products for residual substances recently,it obviously had positive outcomes. Seven public organizations in the cities of AnsanShiheung signed an agreement for the improvement of the environment inaround their industrial complexes. Our reporter met some of the people involved.

In order to change such unfavorable public perception, seven public organizations in AnsanShiheung decided to work together. The representative of the local administration of Ansan City,complaints against foul odor decreased90% since 2005, proposed a method of eliminating fumes generateddye factories.

“The elimination of fumes,one of the major remaining persistent problems of Ansan City. We will implement a 5-year plan beginningthis year.”
The city government of Shiheung proposed countermeasures against pricing,the quality of activated carbon, whichused for air purification.

“We must share information among us,this year, we must request the activated carbon producers to send us carbon samples…”
Participating organizations unanimously agreed to exchange informationadministrative cooperationsupport. They also agreed to tackle the matters through fusion administration practices.
5) Byeon Jin-won / Director of Gyeonggi Province Industrial Complex Environment Management Office
“Each organizationrequested to carry out the tasks specified in the agreement. To facilitate task performances, a tee will meet on a regular basis.”
The agreement of these organizations includes plans for the establishment of an emergency response tem, organization of regular forums on hazardous chemicals,bi-annual accident simulation training.
Article 6. Gyeonggi Launches Cultural Properties Caring Project (0313-1)

The Gyeonggi provincial administration announced that it will implement the Cultural Properties Caring Project to protect national cultural properties,employing full-time caretakers for continuous monitoringmanagement. Our reporter examined the details.

1) Dongsaji 5-Story3-Story Stone Pagodas
These 5-story3-story pagodas, which were built during the period of Goryeo Dynasty, are covered with moss. There are cracksbroken-off sections,they are covered with moss. These are registered national treasures numbered 1213.

To protect the historicalcultural heritagesfurther damage, the Gyeonggi provincial administration decided to employ twenty-one full-time cultural property caretakers.

This project has a dual purpose of protecting the cultural assets as well as providing job opportunity to people in low income brackets. It will also have an effect of preventing large expenses that may incur for renovation work.

This project also includes additional management of fifty non-registered cultural heritages. The provincial administration already set aside a budget of 600 million won for this purpose.

In addition to continuous monitoring, the Cultural Properties Caring Project will also include priority treatment of cultural properties during natural disaster, operation of a mobile cultural properties repair team,the implementation of tematic preventative maintenance works.

The Gyeonggi provincial administration opened an Assistance Dog Sharing Center. This center trains abandoned dogs, that are kept in dog shelters, to be delivered free of charge to people with disabilities to be used as assistance dogs.

This Assistance Dog Sharing Center was opened in Hwaseong on March the 13ththe Gyeonggi provincial office.
7) Free Provision to Individuals in Need
This center s potential candidatesabandoned dogs,trains them as assistance dogs before providing them free of charge to individuals with physical difficulties.

“Even the dogs that used to be domesticated maybe suitable for adoption without training. I think many citizens with different assistance needs can benefitdogsthis center.”
There are 28,000 dogs known to be abandoned or lost annually in Gyeonggi Province alone. By utilizing these dogs, the Assistance Dog Sharing Center also helps in the management of stray dogs.

“If you have a dog that you cannot keep, please send it to this center so that it can be trainedbe given to an individual with physical disability or to a solitary senior after training.”
