Gyeonggi tourism authorities plan to make the most of this occasion, which drew 150,000 domesticoverseas visitors last year, to promote tourism in Gyeonggi Province, a region thatproud of its numerous tourism resources rangingthe DMZ to ancient fortressesroyal tombs that attract six million visitors annually.

4) Opening Ceremony with International Costume Festival
The international costume festival in which foreign ambassadors43 nationstheir spouses will participate in their traditional costumes will take place after the opening ceremony. Running for four days until November 11th, this international tourism expo will feature 280 tourism enterprises25 countries,is expected to attract more than 90,000 visitors on the opening day alone.

November 11thFarmers’ Day in Korea. In commemoration of the 17th Farmers’ Day, Gyeonggi Province held a ceremony on October 30thpresented the Best Farmer Awards.

1) Establishment of Farmers’ Day
In 1996, the Korean government officially d November 11th to be Farmers’ Day. This day was designated as Farmer’s Day because it falls within the close of the annual farm work seasonalso because the number 11, when written in Chinese, forms a character that has the meaning of ‘earth’.
2) 17th Farmers’ Day Ceremony / Gyeonggi Arts Center (October 30th)
The 17th Farmers’ Day ceremony was held at the Gyeonggi Arts Center with the participation of 500 representatives of agricultural organizationsrelated government agencies as well as farmersprivate farming groups in the province.

5) Awards Presented to Best Achievers in 10 Agricultural Categories
These awards were presented to the leading achievers in ten agricultural categories including green vegetable farming, orchardsfloriculture. Nam Gi-cheol (남기철) was awarded in the orchards category for his contribution to increasing income levels among grape growers with his development of high quality grape breeds.

Title 3. Mobile Food Market of Gyeonggi Province (1031-1)

Gyeonggi Province began operation of the Mobile Food Market service in four cities in addition to three previous locations. This service was first launched to deliver surplus food products to economically underprivileged families.

2) Food Bank Project Using Surplus Food
This new mobile servicea modified form of the G-Food Market Food Bank Project, which distributes donated surplus food to families in difficult economic situations.
3-4) Run G-Food Market
However, it was still very difficult for elderly citizens to benefitthe Food Bank because they needed to travel to purchase food items using free food vouchers.
Accordingly, the Mobile Food Market, an operative name of the Run G-Food Market Project, was dthe provincial government to deliver food items directly to the homes of such seniors.
5) Mobile Food Market Launching Ceremony / Yongin City (October 31st)
A ceremony was held for the opening of the Mobile Food Market in Yongin City, one of the four newly opened locations in the cities of Yongin (용인), Suwon ( 수원), Yangpyeong (양평)Hanam (하남). These four new locations supplement three mobile markets already in operation.

This former sweet potato patchcovered with leftover plastic sheetstrash.
Parts of the plastic sheets are still buried in the soil other parts are left exposed. Some of the plastic sheetstrash were dumped in nearby streams. After harvesting, areas around farms are transformed into large ugly garbage dumps, a situation found throughout the province.
3) Ageing Agricultural Population Contributes to Shortage of Labor for Cleaning Up
