Title 1. Gyeonggi Announces 5-Year Trash Reduction Plan (1009-2)

The Gyeonggi Provincial Government announced its five-year plan for trash reduction. The eradication of illegal trash dumpingone of the major objectives of this sweeping plan.

The provincial government spends KRW 570 billion annually on refuse disposal.
1) 25% of Trash Treatment Budget Is Wasted on Illegally Disposed Trash
No less than KRW 140 billion, whichequivalent to one fourth of the trash collectiontreatment budget, has been spent on cleaning up illegally disposed trash, causing a huge amount of financial wastage.
2) On-site Senior Officials Meeting / Suwon Material Recovery House (October 9th)
During an On-site Senior Officials Meeting held at the Suwon Materials Recovery House, the Gyeonggi provincial administration announced that it would launch a five-year plan for the reduction of trash generation in the province.
3) Increased Fines for Illegal Dumping
According to this plan, fines for illegal trash dumpingmonetary rewards for reporting such activities will be increased.
4) Expansion of Road Environment Monitoring Squad
The number of voluntary Road Environment Monitoring Squad members among taxi drivers will also be increasedthe present 72 to 6,000the year 2017.

With Korea rapidly becoming an aging society, there are an increasing number of seniors who are living alone. The Solitary Seniors Visiting Program aims to help these citizens with medical supportvarious activities to improve the quality of their lives.
