Afterschool private tutoringteachersuniversity studentsa very popular form of complementary education for children in Korea. While some parents spend massive amounts of money on what they consider to be prestigious afterschool education for their children, there are university students who are donating their time to teach children outside of school.

These free classes, taughtvolunteer university students, are provided as part of the University Student Coach Program of Gyeonggi Province’s Lifelong Education.
Jiyun (지현)a primary school third grader. While her friends go to private education institutes or tutor residences after school, Jihyun arrives at a small study house near her home.
1) XX Study House / Suwon City
Jihyun (지현) comes to this study house every Friday afternoon to attend a science class taughther favorite university student tutor. She loves this classhas been waiting to come hereweek.
2) Seo Ji-hyun / 3rd Grade, Hwayang Primary School
“I love coming to this study house because itso much fun to study here with our tutor.”
All five tutors at this study house are volunteers,they teach any children who come to study free of charge. Most of them are university students, but they are as good as any expert private tutors.

“I feel greatly rewarded to share my knowledge with children.”
4) University Student Coach Program of Lifelong Education
Study houses such as this one provide childreneconomically underprivileged families with customized education.
Last year, a total of 184 university students joined this free tutoring program to provide afterschool complementary education to 760 primary school children.
Gyeonggi Province plans to invite more university students to participate as volunteer tutors so as to enable more children to benefitthis program.
Title 2. Motels Transform into Tourist Hotels (0619-1)

There are a large number of motels specializing in accommodating couples in Korea. Because of the covert nature of their business, these motels are often clustered in the backstreets of adult entertainment areas. Many of these motels, however, are shifting to target foreign clientele.

1) Ingye-dong, Suwon City
Ingye-dong (인계동)one of the busiest areas in Suwon at night. There are more than ten motels in this area alone.
2) Over 10,000 Foreign Visitors Used Ingye-dong Motels
Having been visitedmore than 10,000 overseas tourists this year as of May, these motels are now functioning as tourist hotels. It seems that visiting tourists are quite satisfied with the comfortconvenience of Korean motels.

“These motels invested extra money in modifying their facilities. For instance, they replaced king-sized beds with twin beds,changed to brighter lighting. They even began to serve breakfast as they do in tourist hotels. Now foreign tourists are pouring into this motel district,both touristsmotel operators are proclaiming their satisfaction.”

“Foreign tourists are helping our business,they are becoming a major part of our clientele.”
It is, however, the foreign tourists who are most satisfied because, in addition to convenience, the motels are much cheaper than regular hotelsare located in the thick of local culture that guests can samplejust going out the door.

“It was very cleancomfortable. The food was also very tasty to us.”
Word of the success of the Ingye-dong (인계동) motel town spread to Wolgot-dong (월곶동) of Shiheung (시흥) City,a group of motel owners organized their own the Overseas Tourist Inducement Committee.
The Gyeonggi Tourism Organization estimates that 2,000 to 7,000 foreign tourists a month will use motels in Wolgot-dong (월곶동).

“The Gyeonggi Tourism Organization will work closely with city governments so as to promote the utilization of motelsforeign tourists.”
Motels are fast becoming a positive element of Gyeonggi Province tourism for foreign tourists in choosing their destinations.

An unusual fashion show featuring expectant mothers took place at the Seongnam (성남) Arts Center. It was the 2012 Gyeonggi Mom D-line Fashion Show organizedGyeonggi Province as part of its childbirth promotion campaign.

This fashion show features garments for pregnant women,the ladies walking on the stage as elegantly as those in any fashion show are pregnant models.
Appropriately entitled the ‘D-line Fashion Show’, each of these modelsan expectant mother with a D body linea story to tell about her pregnancy,one who succeeded in procreating after many years of agonizing waiting to another who decided to have a second child 15 years after her first.
2) Park Nari / D-Line Fashion Show Model
“My husband applied for modeling on my behalf. I have never been a model, but itgoing to be a memorable occasion for both of us.”
Pregnancy iswelcomemany Korean women partly because they think a bulging tummy spoils their figure. This fashion show aims to change such viewsfostering recognition that pregnant women can still be beautiful.
3) Kim Bok-ja / Director of the Gyeonggi Province Women Welfare Division
“We organized this fashion show to change the negative view of young mothers about becoming pregnantto promote childbirth.”
This fashion show, which featured proud pregnant women as models, serves as a message to society that becoming pregnantgiving birth should be perceived positively.
Title 4. Land Exchange between Universities in Gyeonggi Province (0620-2)

Gyeonggi Provincethe Korean Ministry of Education, ScienceTechnology agreed on the direct exchange of the former campus of the Seoul National University College of AgricultureLife Sciencesthe current campus site of the Gyeongin (경인) National University of Education. This dramatic exchange effectively resolves a long-standing dispute over the ownership of the Gyeongin National University of Education campus site as well as the related legal complexities.

The Gyeongin National University of Education site in Incheon (인천) Metropolitan City originally belonged to Gyeonggi Province,the Korean central government.
2) Korean Governmental Audit Ruled Provincial Financing in National University Inappropriate in 2005
A controversy arose when the National Board of AuditInspection ruled in 2005 that itinappropriate for a provincial budget to be used in the establishment of a national university. This ruling triggered a dispute over the ownership of this campus site, but this seven-year-old dispute was settled as the Korean government decided to transfer ownership of the former campus site of the Seoul National University College of AgricultureLife Sciences to Gyeonggi Province in exchange for ownership of the Gyeongin (경인) National University of Education site.
3) Former Campus Site of Seoul National Univ. College of Agriculture & Life Sciences
Under this agreement, 150,000 square meters of the 268,000 square-meter site will now belong to Gyeonggi Province. The provincial government plans to develop this former national university site, which has been left unattended for the past ten years, into a culturalecological theme park.
