Go vernor Kim travelled to Germanythe United Kingdom last month. While visiting Germany, he closed an investment deal with Schaeffler Group for an investment amounting to USD 100 million in additional production lines in Gyeonggi Province. Schaeffleran international automobile parts manufacturer with an annual sales turnover of EUR 10.7 billion; itheadquartered in Germanyalready has a production base in Gyeonggi Province.
2) Production Line to Start Operation in Hwaseong Jangan 2 Industrial Complex2014
According to this MOU, groundbreaking for the new Schaeffler plant will take place on a 34,000 m2 site in the Jangan 2 (장안 2) Industrial Complex in Hwaseong (화성) City this April. Operation of the new production linesscheduled to start in 2014.

4) MOU with TESCO for USD 121 Million Investment / TESCO HQ (February 24th)
After signing the MOU with Schaeffler, Governor Kim flew to the United Kingdomsigned another MOU with TESCO, the largest consumer goods distributor in the UK, for an investment amounting to USD 121 million.
5) Investment in Distribution Facilities in Wongok Distribution Complex in Anseong
A total of USD 136 million will be investedTESCO in distribution facilities in the Wongok (원곡) Distribution Complex of Anseong (안성) City. Groundbreaking for the site will take place this October,the TESCO distribution center will be in full operationDecember of 2013.
The investmentsthese two European companies in Gyeonggi Province are expected to generate 1,300 new jobs.

“The successful inducement of investmentsthese European companies will have enormous positive effects on the local economythe creation of new jobs.”
Governor Kim’s European tour also had political purposes. During his visit to the Republic of Turkey, he signed a cooperation agreement with Istanbul Province. Governor Kim also entered an agreement for the preservationutilization of the Korean Demilitarized Zone with the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation.

Public laborers are temporary workers at public projects establishedlocal governments to provide jobs to individuals in low income brackets. Their jobs, however, are unstablethe competition ratehigh. Most public laborers cannot afford regular health checkups.

Livinghand to mouth, these workers have a lucky day they can grab a job. A visit to the hospitalsomething they live without. Gyeonggi Province began the Mobile Health Checkup Service for public laborers in need of medical care.

Most of these workers have rarely had health checkups, adding to the safety risk of their jobs.
2) Mobile Health Checkup MOU / Suwon City Hall (February 27th)
This mobile medical examination service for public laborers was launched through cooperation agreements between Gyeonggi Provincemedical institutes in the province. Examinations will include urine tests, blood tests,chest X-rays; workers can receive a comprehensive health checkup in one visit. This servicewarmly welcomed among public laborers.

“It was difficult for us to go to a hospital for a health checkup even we could afford it. We are very grateful for this visiting service.”
This visiting health checkup service willonly help workers maintain their health but also have the effect of reducing health-related safety accidents

“We are providing the visiting health checkup service in cooperation with medical institutes in the province. We hope that this service will help public laborers improve their health.”
So far, three medical institutes have joined in this mobile medical service. This mobile health checkup service will operate six times, during which medical teams will visit the 31 citiescounties of Gyeonggi Provincedividing the province into three areas. By theof the service period, a projected total of 12,000 workers will have received medical checkup service.
Title 3. Smart Work Center of Gyeonggi Province Lets Officials Work Smartly (0229-2)

Officials of the 31 autonomous bodies of Gyeonggi Province often have to visit the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex on business, carrying a load of documentsnotebook computers. They had to commute long distances tofrom the provincial office even for brief visits.

When the outdoor library opens, one can visit the library during holidays. Gyeonggi Province plans to design the library so as to allow visitors to the Sharing Market, which opens every Saturday in the government complex, to be able to visit the library conveniently.
5) [INTERVIEW] Park Hae-myeong / Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex Library Official
“Making books available for pickup 24 hours a day effectively allows library s to borrow books 24 hours a day. We will continue to endeavor to improve the quality of library services.”
The Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex Library opened in 2010. During its first year of operation, a total of 2,200 residents became registered s,that number nearly doubled the following year. This new book-loaning service will bring this library closer to residents.
