In addition to the renowned Muhandolbom (무한돌봄) welfare support tem for families who face difficulties but lack access to welfare benefits, Gyeonggi Province has been operating the ‘Visiting Muhandolbomi (무한돌보미) Service for Welfare Facilities’ since last year. The beneficiaries of this service areindividuals but instead welfare facilities in the province. The services provided include free inspectionrepairtechniciansvolunteers.

5) 810 Welfare Facilities BenefitedMuhandolbomi Service
A total of 810 welfare facilities have benefitedthe services of Visiting Muhandolbomi (무한돌보미) since February of last year. The five-member Muhandolbomi (무한돌보미) Service Team consists of techniciansthe provincial governmentvolunteers. They visit small social welfare facilities with less than 10 residents on a daily basis,have so far performed inspectionrepair services on more than 2,500 occasions.

Thisa waste treatment company in Hwaseong (화성) City. Therea mountain of empty hazardous material containers in an open area.
2) Illegal Open Storage of Hazardous Material Containers
Containersthese must be stored in a closedcontrolled storage space, but they are left in an open area to save the cost of storage. Melting snowrain water or even wind can easily carry hazardous substancesthese containersseriously contaminate surrounding areas.

5) 8 Illegal Waste Disposal Sites Were Disclosed
Eight business sites were identified for illegal waste disposalthe Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police. Some of these companies produceillegally dispose of waste that contains highly hazardous heavy metals, such as mercurycadmium, which can cause serious soilwater contamination.

The Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police plan to intensify their control of illegal waste disposalprosecuting identified offenders instead of simply issuing warnings.

Title 3. Paldang Water Marks Highest Quality in 13 Years (0127-1)

Paldang (팔당) Lakethe source of water for the 25 million residents of the Seoul-Gyeonggi metropolitan area,the improvement of its water quality has been an important administrative challenge for Gyeonggi Province. The provincial government has been implementing comprehensive policies for the improvement of Paldang (팔당) water quality since 2007. The effectiveness of these policies was proven when the quality of Paldang (팔당) water was recently announced to be at its highest level in 13 years.

Thisthe Gyeongan (경안) Sewage Treatment Plant in Gwangju (광주) City. Sewage passes through a series of treatment processes at this plantis transformed into clean water capable of supporting fish before flowing into Paldang (팔당) Lake.
2) 180 Sewage Treatment Plants
A large number of new sewage treatment plants that block contaminantsflowing into the Paldang (팔당) watershed have been established in Gyeonggi Province since 2007,the total number of sewage treatment plants in the province has risen to 180.
3) Gyeonggi Province Invests KRW 20.6 Billion in Comprehensive Paldang Lake Project
Gyeonggi Province has set aside a total of KRW 20.6 billion for the Comprehensive Paldang (팔당) Lake Project as part of the Han River Water Quality Improvement Project. Some of this budget has already been utilized over the past five years for a number of related projects such as the creation of an artificial swampsewage piping tem. These projects are now showing their positive effects on the quality of Paldang (팔당) water.

Gyeonggi Province announced that the annual average biochemical oxygen demand of Paldang Lakenow 1.1 ppm, a record high since the launching of the Comprehensive Han River Water Quality Improvement Project in 1998.

5) Gyeongan Stream Water Also Improved
The Gyeongan (경안) Streamone of the tributaries of Paldang (팔당) Lakewas notorious for the foul quality of its water. The water quality of this stream has also improved5.2 ppm in 2006 to 2.0 ppm in 2011.
Gyeonggi Province has been focusing on the Han River watershed in its endeavors to improve water quality, but will modify current projects to include tributariesthis year.

The Gyeonggi Province Agricultural Research & Extension Services held a seminar on the promotion of the insect industry as an industry of the future.

From yellow ladybugs that live exclusively on plant germs to beetles with formidable pincer-like mandibles, there are estimated to be more than 10 million insect species living on the planet. Insects account for three quarters ofanimal life on Earth; however, insects are usuallyconsidered resources for human life.

Title 6. Human Rights of People with Disabilities (0127-2)

Gyeonggi Province began the active implementation of its plan for the protection of the human rights of people with disabilities.

1) Movie: ‘Crucible’
The recent showing of the movie ‘Crucible’ triggered public interest in the human rights of people with disabilities in Korea. This movie was a strong denunciation of the violation of human rights of disabled individualssociety in general,d ripple effects in Korean society.
2) Survey on Current Status of Human Rights of People with Disabilities
Gyeonggi Province has commissioned a survey of residential facilities for people with disabilities,identified 35 cases of the violation of human rightsunjust operation.
CG (Major Violations of Human Rights of People with Disabilities)
The disclosed violations included two cases of bodily violence, seven cases of physical fights, one case of verbal abuse, 10 cases of suspected corporal punishment,13 other violations. There were also 12 cases of improper operation of facilities such as kitchensanitary services.

Investigators are gathering evidence of violations,those who are proven guilty will be prosecuted or dischargedthe facilities
