Gyeonggi Province signed an agreement with neighboring Gangwon Province for the success of the 2018 Pyeongchang (평창) Winter Olympicsfor cooperation in mutual economic advancement.

1) Gyeonggi-Gangwon Administrative Cooperation MOU / Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex (November 21st)
Gyeonggi Province agreed to extend a neighborly hand for the successful hosting of the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang (평창) County of Gangwon (강원) Province. Both provinces entered the Interprovincial Administrative Cooperation Agreement. According to this agreement, Gyeonggi Province will provide active support for the hosting of the Winter Olympic Gamesthe development of tourism resources, social infrastructurethe DMZ as well as for the promotion of cooperation between SouthNorth Korea.
2) Support for Success of Pyeongchang Winter Olympics
The two provincial governments have already been cooperating in the construction of a railroad networkYeongdong Expressway II for effective linkage with Pyeongchang (평창).

The development of tourism resources through mutual cooperation will also include some areas in the DMZ. These two provinces are gems of tourism in Korea,the interprovincial agreement will have positive effects for the successful hosting of the Pyeongchang (평창) Winter Olympic Games as well as for the local development of both provinces.

Title 4. Gimjang to Share with Disadvantaged Neighbors (1123-1)

Around the same time as American Thanksgiving, Korean homes also have an annual event. They prepare a large quantity of kimchi (김치) to last through the winter. Koreans have a special name for this annual undertaking; itcalled gimjang (김장). While vegetable prices plummeted recently, causing great concern among farmers, Gyeonggi Province organized a gimjang kimchi-making event in the central quad of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex so as to help disadvantaged neighbors who cannot afford to do their own gimjang (김장) at the same time helping farmers find a market for their products.

Volunteers are busy putting generous amounts of the red kimchi (김치) mixture between salted cabbage leaves. Piles of completed kimchi (김치) are growing higher. Boxes of this kimchi (김치) will be donated to people in need,farmers are relieved to be able to sell their cabbagesother ingredient vegetables.

The volunteers include members of the Gyeonggi Saemaul (새마을) Women’s Clubits 31 branches throughout the province as well as staff members of the Gyeonggi Election Commission. The name of the occasionthe ‘Winter-Warming & Love-Sharing Gimjang Event’.

“We plan to spend KRW 1.2 billion to prepare gimjang (김장) kimchianother KRW 260 million to purchase rice. Both the kimchi (김치)rice will be delivered to single seniors, facilities for disadvantaged individualsmulticultural families as donations under the Winter-warming Movement.”
3) 2,000 Boxes of Kimchi Delivered to Needy Neighbors
The 2,000 boxes of gimjang kimchi (김장 김치) made during today’s event were delivered to 550 single seniors, 150 welfare facilitiesmulticultural families throughout Gyeonggi Province. As the name of the movement suggests, this sharing of food will certainly be a winter-warming gift to many less fortunate neighbors.

The government heads of Gyeonggi ProvinceSeoul City had a meeting in Seoul. These two chiefs of the largest local governments in Korea discussed current affairs concerning the capital region including transportation network matters. It was the first meeting between the two since the inauguration of the new mayor of Seoul in October.

Gyeonggi Provincial Governor Kim Moon-Soo (김문수)new Seoul City Mayor Park Won-soon (박원순) met at the JW Marriott Hotel in Seoul on November 24th. This meeting was realized through the invitation of Governor Kim Moon-soothe new Mayor of Seoul. They engaged in discussions about affairs of interest to both regions.
2) Consensus on the Need for a Permanent Cooperative Body
The two local government heads agreed on the need for the establishment of a permanent body to function as a cooperative agent for the advancement of the capital region.
3) Transportation Issues
The discussion points during the meeting were transportation issues such as bus fare increasesthe construction of the GTX Express Railroad. Governor Kim asked Mayor Park to cooperate in the bus fare increase, asserting that itinevitable to rescue bus operatorsfinancial shortfalls.
