The percentage of people with disabilities relative to overall employmentin Gyeonggi Province was 2.2% last year.
4) Job Fair for Disabled / Gyeonggi Small & Medium Business Center (October 20th)
Thisbecause disabled individuals still have very limited employment opportunities in the job market. As a means of delivering more job opportunitiesto them, Gyeonggi Province organized a Job Fair exclusively for its disabled residents.
5) 36 Companies to Recruit 150 Employees
36 companies participated in this job fair to fill 150 vacancies. Prospective job applicants were provided with comprehensive servicesvolunteers,rangingpreparation of employment applications to assistance with job interviews.

The Gyeonggi Job Fair for the Disabled marked its second edition this year. The Gyeonggi Employment Center, the organizer of the event, plans to reinforce employment support programs for people with disabilities so as to expand the range of potential workareas beyond simple production jobs to a variety of other areas such as office administrationresearchdevelopment.

The Gyeonggi Agricultural ResearchExtension Services announced the development of a rice embryo bud extraction technique.

Embryo budsgrain are a part of the seedand contain abundantnutrients.Unfortunately with rice, most embryo buds are lost during the polishing process. If the health benefits of rice embryo buds are to be commercially utilized, there has to be a way to extract embryo budsunpolished rice grains. Commercial use of rice embryo buds has so far been limited to cosmetic products.
1)MOU for Rice Embryo Bud Technology Transfer / Gyeonggi Agricultural Research & Extension Services (October 20th)
Recently, the Gyeonggi Agricultural ResearchExtension Services successfully developed a technique for extracting live embryo budsrice bran,signed an MOU with food ingredient processing companies for the transfer of this technique for the development of functional food products using processed rice embryo buds.
2)Registration of Trademark, “Discovery of Lost Rice Embryo Buds”.

The rice embryo bud ispacked with nutrients including amino acids, vitamins, calcium, mineralsfiber. This new technique will open up the possibility of utilizing rice embryo buds as a food product as well as a functional food supplement.The Gyeonggi Agricultural ResearchExtension Services has already completed trademark registration of a processed food product, aptly named the“Discovery of Lost Rice Embryo Buds”

The Gyeonggi Agricultural ResearchExtension Services will continue to develop rice embryo bud products in cooperation with food companies.

6)13 Representative Makkoli Brands of Gyeonggi Province
This festival featured 13 representative makkeoli (막걸리) brands of Gyeonggi Province such as purple sweet potato makkeoli (막걸리)ginseng makkeoli (막걸리). They are made with a combination of modern brewing technologiestraditional methods.

Title 5.Unhygienic Water in Motels (1025-1)

A large number of lodging facilities in Gyeonggi Province were found to have been offering unsanitary drinking water to their guests. These facilities have water purifiers installed in their guest rooms, but they werereceiving proper hygienic maintenance. The drinking watersome of the lodging facilities was found to contain 48 times as many as germs as the standard hygienic level.

Thisone of the motels in Suwon (수원) City. Therea filtered water dispenser in every guest room. More than three times the standard hygienic level of germs has been foundin the waterthis water dispenser. The owner blames the supplier of the dispenser.

“The water purifier man comes every two months to change the filters, but the rumorthat changing the filters doesdo any good in reducing the number of germs unless filters are chemically processed.”
3)51 Facilities Investigated, 24 Violated Standard
The Special Judicial Police of Gyeonggi Province conducted an investigation of 51 lodging facilities in the provincefound that nearly half of them were supplying unhygienic water to their guests.

Six of the investigated facilities were found to have purifiers producing water containing more than ten times the standard level of germs,even nearly 50 times the standard level was found in one of the facilities. The Special Judicial Police prosecuted the violators.

A unique contest took place at the Gyeonggi SmallMedium Business Center. It was a job contest among the elderly work force aimed at advertising jobssharing employment information. This event was a huge successsaw the participation of three thousand senior citizens.

Baek Ok-hee (백옥희)70 years old. Shethe oldest participant in the storytelling section of this contest event. When she demonstrates her skill in storytelling, playing both the role of a childa granny, her agethe farthest thingthe minds of listeners,perhapshers, too.

To Park Eun-hee (박은희), 61 years old, age isan obstacle either. After spending her whole adult life as a housewife, she decided to join the work force for the first time. Her dreamto become a teacher for multicultural families.

5)Culinary Skill LearnedAncestor Becomes a Trade
Members of the Ansan (안산) Senior Club exhibited traditional marriage ceremony food decorated with delicately carved apricot flowers madecuttlefishsuccessfully found a buyer. One of the popular sections was the Image Making section in which senior job applicants were provided with employment information as well as tips on how to prepare for interviews.

The senior population has been continuously growingover the past eight years at an average annual rate of 0.3%, reaching 8.9% this year. Itbecoming increasingly important that senior citizens are provided with more opportunities to participate in social activities as could be witnessed in the Gyeonggi Senior Job Contest.
