The number of annual food poisoning incidents has increased steadily47 cases involving 1,073 individuals in 2009 to 69 cases involving 2,694 individuals. There have been 23 cases involving 608 individuals reported up to May this year. Since therea necessity for urgent countermeasures against food poisoning, Gyeonggi Province designated six locations such as Dangiegol (댕이꼴) in Ansan (안산) Citythe Food Theme Road in Shiheung (시흥) City as Special Food Safety Zones,ed some 200 restaurants in these zones as ‘Gyeonggi Anshim (안심) Restaurants’ for the special provision of regular hygiene training support.

Happy Farm will start operation in Wolgot-dong (월곶동) in Shiheung (시흥) City next month, employing 20 disadvantaged residents including senior citizens. The employees of this company will work on a variety of business projectsthe cultivationsale of flowers to the implementation of public projects such as creating flower beds in local welfare facilities.

Farms across South Korea have long been deprived of sunshine due to a month of monsoonpost-monsoon rains. While the lack of sunshinejeopardizing farm production, an ingenious solution that can prevent agricultural damage has been proposed. It simply uses supplemental lights.

1) Supplemental Light Installation Project of Gyeonggi Agricultural Research & Extension Services
The Gyeonggi Agricultural ResearchExtension Services, or GARES, has been promoting the installation of supplementary lights to help farmers prevent damageblightharmful insects as well as the deterioration of farm product marketability causedthe lack of sunshine. GARES announced that the pilot project for supplementary light installation that began in 2007 has realized positive results during this year’s monsoon season.
2) Prevention of Insect-related DamagesMaintenance of Marketability
By using supplementary lights, a melanin gum tree farmer in Yongin (용인) City achieved the positive effects of preventing damageinsectsmaintaining the marketability of his products. He says that, after installing the supplementary lights, his income increased30% because the supplementary lights compensated for the lack of sunshine during the monsoon season.

1) Gyeonggi Firefighter King Contest / Gyeonggi Fire Service Adademy (July 19th-22nd)
Firefighters line up at the starting line, determined to win. Each firefighter, shouldering six connected 8kg-water hoses, must run a 100m race. They run as their lives depend on it,are soon drenched with sweat in the scorching weather.
2) 5 Fire Rescue Events on Day 3
The competitors now face a tough mission. Carrying a 20kg water bucket in each hand, each has to climb up a three-story building and, upon arriving at the top, has to haul up an even heavier object with a rope.
