Title 1. New KTX Line Connects Dongtan New Town (0628-1)

When residents in the southeastern regions of Gyeonggi Province use KTX, they have to travel either to Suwon (수원) or Gwangmyeong (광명) City, but they will have much better access to KTX2015 when a new KTX line stops at Dongtan (동탄) New Town. The construction of this new KTX line will also help boost local development.

1) KTX Seoul Metropolitan Line (Suseo-Pyeongtaek) Ground-Breaking Ceremony / Gomae-dong, Yongin City (June 28th)
The ground was broken for the construction of the KTX Seoul Metropolitan Line. This new KTX line will connect Suseo (수서) in Seoul with Pyeongtaek (평택) City in southern Gyeonggi Province via Dongtan (동탄) Station. Pyeongtaek (평택)also one of the transit stations of another KTX line, whichalready in operation connecting SeoulBusan.
2) KRW 3.7 Trill Project Scheduled for Complete in 2014
The KTX Seoul Metropolitan Line will be completed in 2014has a projected cost of KRW 3.7 trillion.
3) 2 Hours to Busan, 1 Hour 30 Minutes to Mokpo
When this new KTX linecomplete, travellingDongtan (동탄) to Busan (부산) will take only 2 hours,only 90 minutes to Mokpo (목포) City, a substantial improvement in long-distance transportation for residents of southeastern Gyeonggi Province.

Since the 28.5 km segment of the Seoul Metropolitan KTX Line between Suseo (수서)Dongtan (동탄) also overlaps one of the new GTX lines, this ground-breaking for the KTX line also marks the beginning of GTX construction. The Gyeonggi Provincial Government, being keen to complete the construction of the three GTX lines earlier than originally scheduled, will soonconstruction of Jije (지제) Station in Pyeongtaek (평택) City, a KTX-GTX transit station, as part of the KTX line construction project.
5) Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-soo
“Since the groundbreaking of this KTX line also means the beginning of GTX construction, we will endeavor to start construction of the other GTX segments as soon as possible.”
Traffic conditions in the southeastern regions of Gyeonggi Province are notorious, but the construction of both the KTXGTX lines through these regions will substantially alleviate the inconvenience experiencedresidents in these regions.

Provision of employment opportunities for financial independenceone of the most important elements of support for people in low income brackets. But in reality, iteasier said than done. Gyeonggi Province, however, has been endeavoring to find jobs for underprivileged individuals who are capable of working.

62-year-old Jang (장) in Anseong (안성) City had a stroke two years ago. He has now recovered but was unable to work again because he simply couldn’t find a job. When he heard about the employment supportGyeonggi Province for people in low income brackets, he immediately applied.

People in low income brackets in Korea still find it very difficult to sustain their livelihoods unless they have means of earning.
2) Find-Your-Job Tour / Anseong-3dong Resident Center (June 27th)
Gyeonggi Province launched an employment support program for middle-agedsenior individuals who aredifficulties supporting themselves due to long-term unemployment.
3) Free Employment PlacementMental Health Consultation
Officially named the ‘Find-Your-Job Tour’, this employment support service event will circulate through 21 citiescounties in the province, providing an employment placement service as well as a variety of other services such as mental health consultationdebt consultation free of charge.
4) Park Hui-seong, Director of Anseong Local Center for Self-support
“The qualificationexperience levels of the recipients of Basic Livelihood Benefit are often very low,they find it difficult to actively go outfind jobs themselves. The purpose of this programto invite them to the event, address their weaknessesprovide them with employment placement service. We have been organizing such event twice every year.”
Gyeonggi Province plans to raise the employment rate of individuals in low income brackets through employment support programs, which also include the continuous provision of customized educational support for employmentjob interview accompaniment.

Title 3. Korean Cultural Experiences for Families of US Military Personnel (0627-2)

On a Sunday last month, US military personneltheir families had an opportunity to experience Korean culture. They had a great time despite the heavy rain.

These foreigners are fully focused on the target as they pull back bows. They also enjoy making their own bowsarrows. They are the families of US military personnel trying their skills experiencing Korean culture. This event was organizedGyeonggi Province as part of the Korean Cultural Experiential Program for women family members of the US Forces in Korea.

By providing foreigners in Korea with opportunities to become familiar with Korean culturehistory, this programexpected to enhance their understanding of Koreatheir relationships with Korea people.

Since Gyeonggi Province has the largest number of multi-cultural familiesfamilies of the US military personnel in Korea, the provincial government plans to continue organizing similar events for foreigners to help them experienceunderstand Korean culture.

The inside of this kimchi (김치) manufacturing plantequipped with excellent facilities that ensure the hygiene of theproducts. This manufacturer acquired G-mark certificationGyeonggi Province in 2007has been supplying kimchi to more than 200 buyers including the kitchens of primary schools. Producing an average of 15 tons of kimchi every day, this company applies very ent hygiene control standardswashes cabbages at least five times during the summer.

There are over 100 G-marked agricultural products being produced in more than 200 factories in Gyeonggi Province.

The risk of food poisoning increases during the summer season. Gyeonggi Province ensures the safety of G-mark certified productsguaranteeing the payment of up to KRW 100 million when any of these productsproven to have caused food poisoning.
4) `Agricultural Product Recall System`, `Governor-guaranteed Indemnity Clause`
Gyeonggi Province introduced the ‘Agricultural Product Recall System’the ‘Governor-guaranteed Indemnity Clause’ for the first time in Korea as well as multiple safety assurance tems such as 365-day Quality ControlSafety Inspection so as to secure public confidence in the safety of G-marked products.

Succeeding in South Korean societya daunting ifimpossible task for North Korean defectors who came to the south to start new lives. There are, however, those who achieved success here through grueling efforts. Our reporter met them.

Kim Jeong-hoon (김정훈) arrived in South Korea eight years ago. Likeother North Korean defectors here, he had difficult time adapting to life in South Korea. Henow the successful owner of a livestock farm. When he looks at his prized cows, the timeeffort spentno longer regarded as an agonizing memory.

Kim Min-ju (김민주)another successful settlerNorth Korea. Working as a nursery teacher, she confesses that she could endure any hard work when she thought of how gruesome her life had been back in North Korea.

There are more than 20,000 North Korean defectors who have arrived in South Korea so far. Gyeonggi Provincehome to more than 5,000 of them. They say that itthe prejudice of people more than financial hardship that makes it difficult for them to settle in South Korea.
3) Vision for Success Camp for North Korean Defectors / Local Government Officials Development Institute (June 25th)
The Vision for Success Camp was organized to promote the successful settlement of North Korean defectors in South Korea. During the camp, in which more than 300 North Korean defectors participated, success cases were presented followeddiscussions on how to successfully adapt to South Korean society. There was also mentor-mentee formation session between the participantsSouth Korean residents.

Title 6. Support for Small & Medium Enterprises in Gyeonggi Province (0628-2)

Gyeonggi Province will provide financial support of up to KRW 8.1 billion to smallmedium-sized enterprises that possess high technological potential but face operational difficulties.

This IT company in Gunpo (군포) City developed a wireless warning tem that tracks the location of a childtransfers that information to the parent’s mobile phone in real time. This tem can provide an effective means of preventing crimes against children, but the company wouldn’t have survived the financial difficulties they had been facing since the development stage without the KRW 600 million in support providedGyeonggi Province this year.

2) Support of KRW 8.1 Billion for 1st Half of 2011 for Technology Development
A total of KRW 8.1 billion will be provided to smallmedium-sized enterprises in 40 business fields that are facing operational difficulties although they have exceptional technological knowhow.

A maximum of KRW 900 million will be provided to each enterprise over the span of three years for the development in ed technological fields: 10 in electronics, 8 in mechanicsmaterials, 7 in bio-technologymedicine,5 each in softwarechemicals, recycling,the environment.
