1: Gyeonggi Province Aims to Reduce Smokers to 20%2014

Since the demographics of Gyeonggi Province continuously indicate thatthe provincebecoming an aging society, the onset rates of adult diseases are expected to increase. As one of the measures to address this potential problem, Gyeonggi Province plans to reduce the number of smokers so as to limit the onset of smoking-related diseases among adults.

The provincial populationexpected to growlast year’s11.6 million to 12.3 million in 2014,the proportion of residents 65 years of age or olderalso expected to increase8.6% to 9.8%.
Gyeonggi Province has prepared a draft of the Local HealthMedical Plan for the prevention of adult diseases that have become a major concern with theaging of the provincial population.
This plan aims to reduce the number of smokersthe present 26.3% down to 20%2014, which will effectively reduce the onset of smoking-related adult diseases.
The provincial government plans to spend KRW4 billion to expand the enforcement of non-smoking areas to include, for example, librariesgas stations,will operate non-smoking clinics in collaboration with private clinics in addition to such clinics at public health centers.
This plan also includes the implementation of programs for the prevention of hypertension, diabetessuicide.
According to plans for the suicide prevention program, which aims to reduce the suicide ratethe present 28.9 persons per 100,000 to 24.9 persons2014, more consultantsspecialists in suicide prevention will be employed.
2: Career Coaching Service for Women Job Searchers

The Career Coaching Service of Gyeonggi Province, an online employment service for women with past employment experience, will be expanded to a national service supportedthe Ministry of Gender EqualityFamily. Now, any experienced woman in any part of the country who seeks to return to the workforce may use this service.

The Online Career Coaching Service provides one-stop online employment support to women who have had employment experiencewish to work again. This service includes the analysis of employment potentialthe provision of employment counselingas well as support for personal developmentemployment placement.
This service received the Presidential Autonomous Information SystemAwardin 2010. Having recognized the excellence of this service in employment support for women, the Ministry of Gender EqualityFamily has decided to support the nationwide expansion of the service this year.

3: Visit to a Welfare House of Mentally Challenged Individuals

Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-soo(김문수) has been emphasizing the importance of welfare policy for underprivileged people. Following his previous visits to companies that employ senior citizenswelfare facilities for physically challenged individuals, he visited a mental hospice in Yongin(용인) early this monthdiscussed ways to improve welfare for individuals with mental disabilities.

Thisa nursing home for mentally challenged individuals in Yongin(용인) City. There are a total of 250 schizophrenic patients receiving treatment here.
Governor Kim Moon-soo(김문수) visited this centerparticipated in baking, whichone part of the recuperation programs. After touring the facility, Governor Kim had informal talks with the families of patientsmental health specialists on the topic of ‘Overcoming Prejudice against People with Mental Disabilities.”
During the meeting, a number of complaints were voiced about the difficulties that mental patients face due to social prejudice.
The assistant chief of a group of the mentally challenged said that itmuch more difficult for people with mental disabilities than those with physical disabilities to find employment.

Governor Kim (김문수) acknowledged that health facilitiespolicies for people with mental disabilities lag behind other welfare sectorspromised to provide more politicalmonetary support for the rehabilitation of mentally challenged individuals.
Since January 31st, Governor Kim has visited companies that employ elderly workersnursery homes as part of the policy of ‘Listening to Welfare Issues at Welfare Sites’ so as to reflect on-site opinionsin provincial policies.
4: Makgeolli Enters Markets in SW AsiaEU This Year

Gyeonggi Province will provide support of KRW2.8 billion for the export of high quality makgeolli(막걸리), a traditional Korean unrefined rice wine. This decisionbased on the provincial government’s plan to promote makgeolli(막걸리), whichprimarilyproduced in the northern part of the province, as a leading export item

Bubbles risea mixture of riceyeast. This makgeolli(막걸리), made100% Gyeonggi rice, was first introduced to the Japanese market last year with much success.
A total of 14,000 tons of makgeolli(막걸리) produced in northern Gyeonggi Province was shipped to 15 countries last year, accounting for 74% of thetotalnational exports of makgeolli(막걸리).
The Gyeonggi Provincial Government decided to provide support of KRW2.8 billion toseven ed makgeolli(막걸리) producers in the northern region of the province for the improvement of facilities for sterilization, injectionsanitation as well as for the purchase of high-quality packaging materials.
The companies ed for support are Yangju(양주) Brewery in Yangju(양주) City, Sangshin Brewery, Edong(이동) Brewery, Josuldang(조술당) BreweryBaesangmyeon(배상면) Brewery inPocheon(포천) City,Urisool(우리술) BreweryGapyeong(가평) Brewery in Gapyeong(가평) County.
Makgeolli (막걸리) production in northern Gyeonggi Province realized remarkable growthUSD2.6 million in 2007 to USD12.3 million last year.
Gyeonggi Province has been leading the makgeolli(막걸리) market with continued developmentproduction of quality makgeolli(막걸리). The province aims to expand international markets in South-east AsianEuropean Union countries this year.
5: Children’s Anshim School in Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex

The Anshim(안심) Schoolswere established to relieveworking parents of the burden of nursingprivate education costs for their children. A new Anshim(안심) school opened inside the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complexis now alive with the laughter of children.

6: Political Meeting on New Town Issues

New Town Projects in Gyeonggi Province are facing difficulties in ution due to oppositionresidents. A political meeting was convened to discuss solutions.

The New Town Projects were originally conceivedGyeonggi Province for the redevelopment of old urban areas, but these projects have met tough obstacles that resulted in the abandonment of the project for the Manan(만안) Development Area in Anyang(안양) City. This follows two similar abandonments in Pyeongtaek(평택)Gunpo(군포).
A political meeting was convened at the National Assembly Building to discuss solutions to problems in the implementation of New Town Projects.
The problems with the New Town Projects, which are among the most sensitive contemporary issues of Gyeonggi Province, were discussed in the meeting among provincial government officials, representatives of related autonomous bodiesmembers of the National Assembly.
At the beginning of the meeting, Gyeonggi Provincial Governor Kim Moon-soo(김문수) accepted personal responsibility for the current problems of the New Town Projectsurged the central governmentrelated citiescounties to unite in finding solutions.
There are 20 New Town Project areas in 12 cities in Gyeonggi Province, but the feasibility of most of these projects face challenges due the stagnation of the housing marketthe supply of Bogeumjari(보금자리) housingthe central government.
Gyeonggi Provinceendeavoring to spread information on New Town Projects among provincial residentsprovide education on the New Town Leadership Formation Process to alleviate discord among residents. The provincial government also plans to establish transparent management of the projects through the development of public management tems, each city will operate a project tee with residentsestablish implementation plans for the regional designation of New Town Projects.
7: Gyeonggi Province Successfully Induces Investment of KRW2 Trillion in Anseong City

Gyeonggi Province successfully drew investment of KRW2 trillionKCC, one of the largest construction material manufacturers in Korea. KCC will construct high-tech material manufacturing facilities in Anseong(안성) City.

High-tech material manufacturing facilitiescosting KRW2 trillion won will be built in Anseong(안성) City of Gyeonggi Province to produce LEDsolar cell parts.
Gyeonggi ProvinceKCC signed an MOU on tenancyin General Industrial Complex 4 in Anseong(안성) Cityentered a contract for a land lot.
Under this MOUthe purchase contract, KCC will occupy 89 acres of land in General Industrial Complex 4of Anseong (안성) City.
Construction of the new KCC plant in this industrial complex will approximately 3,000 new jobs,annual sales of KRW1.8 trillion will help boost the local economy.
KCC will invest KRW2 trillion2015 in the construction of a plant on an area of 54 acresproduce 150,000 Sapphire circuit boards for LEDs per month as well as silicon boards for solar cells that generate theequivalent of 1.6 giga-watts.
Gyeonggi Province has been active in bringing industrial companies into the provincesucceeded in accommodating Samsung Electronics in the Godeok(고덕) Industrial Complex in Pyeongtaek(평택) City last December followedKCC in Anseong(안성) City this month. Having achieved the inducement of large companies in the difficult environment posedstricter regulations in the capital region, Gyeonggi Province will move forward to reaffirm the province as the industrial hub of Korea.
