Rabbits in muralsfolk paintings symbolize prosperitylongevity. According to folklore, one would live a long life one binds a blue silk thread on one’s wrist in the Year of the Hare. Following the tradition, children wear silk braceletsmake a New Year’s wish.

Some of the main road sections in Gyeonggi Province that have become infamous for traffic jams during commuting hours will be improved.

1) Widened West Suwon-Uiwang Section of Highway Opened (January 3rd)
The Construction Headquarters of Gyeonggi Province announced that a 3-kilometer section of the Seoul BeltwayHakui (학의) Junction toward Seoul has been widened2 lanes to 3 laneswas tentatively opened earlier than was originally scheduled.

The widening of this section between the Hakui (학의) Interchangethe Uiwang (의왕) Tollgate will reduce the travel time on this section during commuting hoursmore than 30 minutes, whichequal to the saving of more than KRW 6.2 billion in annual transportation costs.
2) Temporary Opening of Part of Seowoon-Anseong Road
The 5.6-kilometer section of the Pyeongtaek (평택) – Umseong (음성) Highway between the Namanseong (남안성) ICdowntown Anseong (안성) City, whicha part of the Seowoon (서운) – Ansan (안산) Road Widening Work section, also opened temporarily.

3) 31 Regional Disaster Safety Control Headquarters to Be Established
Gyeonggi Province also plans to set up 31 regional disaster safety control headquarters in citiescounties in the province to effectively deal with the disaster locally.
In order to avoid the delay of preventive measuresthe culling of infected animals due to the budget limitations, the provincial government will provide timely support for the livelihood of the farmerscompensation for culled animals.

Title 7: Second Low Income Bracket Families Can Also Apply for Child-nursing Benefits (0104-2)

As part of efforts to abolish redundant regulations, Gyeonggi Province simplified the application procedures for child-nursing benefits for families in the second low-income bracket.

Application procedures for child-nursing benefits for families in the second low-income bracket will be greatly simplified beginningMarch. Each eligible candidate for family child-nursing benefits in the second low-income bracket will receive between KRW 86,000KRW 383,000 per month.

Families that have members with an incurable or chronic disease or children aged less than 18have income of less than 120% of the minimum cost of living are eligible for the reduction of the self-payment portion of child-nursing costs.

When families in the second low-income bracket apply for child-nursing benefits, they are subject to incomeasset verification processes, although virtuallyapplicants are eligible for the benefits. It has been considered typical red-tape requiredredundant regulations. In order to rectify the problem, Gyeonggi Province proposed the amendment of the regulations,the central government accepted the proposalmade the corresponding amendment.
