1: Majung Volunteer Moms Maintain Vigil Against Children Molestation

Children with two working parents or only a single parent are prime targets of child molesters since these children are often left unsupervised. In order to provide protection for such children, Gyeonggi Province organized the Majung (마중), or Come to Watch, Volunteer Moms Squad.

There were two incidents of child molestation in FebruaryJune this year. These two criminal cases have one thing in common: both victims were children who were left alone at home or in a playground without any adult supervision at the time of the crime.
These incidents indicate that the prime targets of child molesters are children left unsupervisedparents who canprovide continuous parental care.
It has been found that, in the northern Gyeonggi areas, there are 230 primary school children186 middle school children who are left alone without parental care on daily basis and, therefore, exposed to the danger of child molestation.
Considering the dangers to such childrenthe necessity to provide protection for them, Gyeonggi Province organized the Majung (마중) Volunteer Moms Squad, which consists of 209 volunteer mothers.
Members of the Majung (마중) Volunteer Moms Squad will form a contact networkparticipate in a variety of activities, including walking with children tofrom schoolmonitoring areas vulnerable to sexual crimes against children, in an effort to safeguard local children who are left without parental care.
2: Gyeonggi Province Hosts General Assembly Meeting of The Association of North East Asia Regional Governments

The Association of North East Asia Regional Governments, or NEAR,the largest international organization in North East Asia with 69 affiliated autonomous governments6 northeast Asian countries. The General Assembly of NEAR convened at KINTEX in Goyang (고양) City. A familiarization tour of Gyeonggi Province was also organized for the assembly representatives to foster industrial development also promoting the historyculture of Gyeonggi Province

Heads of local governments6 countries in northeast Asia visited Gyeonggi Province to attend the 8th General Assembly of the Association of North East Asia Regional Governments, the largest such international organization in northeast Asia.
The Association of North East Asia Regional Governments was established in 1996has since endeavored to promote mutual exchangedevelopment among the affiliated local governments in the areas of economy, trade, culture, environment, sciencetechnology. At the opening ceremony, Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-Soo (김문수) said that he expected the assembly meeting this year would turn NEAR into a central organization for the unity of North East Asia.
For the promotion of Gyeonggi Province’s industrial development as well as its historyculture, a special familiarization tour of the province was organized for the assembly representatives; the tour included visits to Samsung Electronicsthe Suwon (수원) Hwaseong (화성) Museum. Gyeonggi Province previously hosted a NEAR Working Committee Meeting last September to discuss the hosting of the 8th General Assembly. Before hosting this general assembly of NEAR, Gyeonggi Province had also hosted the Tri-Regional FriendshipExchange Conference among three local governmentsKorea, JapanChina as well as the Gyeonggi GFAIR in which many foreign companies participated. Gyeonggi Province expects significant economic benefitsthe hosting of such large-scale international conferences.

4: Officers of Gyeonggi Province Takes Responsibility for Clean Water

The Total Pollution Management System will be introduced in 2013 for the management ofcontaminants in river water below the designated levels, thereby maintaining good water quality. Gyeonggi Province organized an on-site visit to the Han River System for related officials to prepare them for the coming enforcement of this new tem.

Thisthe Gwangdong-ni (광동리) ecological marsh located in Gwangju (광주) City.
This artificial ecological marsh has been developed to improve the water quality of the Gyeongan (경안) Tributary, which has suffered more contamination relative to other tributaries that flow into Paldang Watershed. For public officials who are responsible for water quality, this ecological marsh – which has been built for the improvement of water qualitythe provision of habitats for plantsanimals – has became a good example of water management, especially in terms of the enforcement of the Total Pollution Management System.
Thisthe Gyeongan (경안) sewage treatment plant in Gwangju (광주) City. The water that arrives here passes through a series of treatment processesis transformed into water with a contaminant level below 5ppm – clean enough for fish to live in – before being discharged into Paldang (팔당) Lake. Officials of Gyeonggi Province visited the water quality preservation facilities along the Han River Watershedhad an on-site water management experience, which will be beneficial for their development of water policy models.
They also visited Gangcheonbo (강천보) in Yeoju (여주) City, one of the work sites of the Han River Revival Project,gained a clear understanding of the necessity for the 4-Rivers Project as well as project details. Gyeonggi Province has been implementing a project for river monitoring at 152 locations to measure the water qualityflow rate at least 36 times a yearto analyze the state of contamination.
5: Talk Concert for Youths

6: Metropolitan Special Judicial Police of Gyeonggi Province Crack Down on Illegal Drugs

The Metropolitan Special Judicial Police of Gyeonggi Province staged a general crackdown on illegal sexual drugsuncovered cases of illegal dealing60 establishments. The police had leads that sexual drugs were being sold illegally at some adult shops.

The Metropolitan Special Judicial Police staged a surprise general crackdown on illegal drugs. The police raided 107 adult shopsuncovered violations at 60 locations. The MSJP of Gyeonggi Province had leads that drugs that require a doctor’s preion – such as erectile dysfunction drugs, local anestheticsaphrodisiacs – were being sold illegally at some adult shops
Out of a total of 60 adult shops that were found to have sold illegal drugs, operators of 6 were prosecuted under the Pharmaceutical Affairs Law. Police are still investigating the remaining 54 shops,the number of prosecutionsexpected to rise according to the outcome of the investigations.
During the two general crackdowns that were conducted in JulyOctober, the MSJP of Gyeonggi Province confiscated 1,503 fake Viagra tablets, 1,256 fake Cialis tablets, 469 local anesthetics96 aphrodisiacs.
The operators of the adult shops that were prosecuted will be imprisoned for up to 5 years or fined up to KRW 20 million in accordance with Article 93 of the Pharmaceutical Affairs Lawrelevant statutes.
According to the MSJP of Gyeonggi Province, these illegally distributed drugs can cause serious damage to human healthshould be avoided since their production processes areknown.
7: KTX Shortens Distance between SuwonBusan2 Hours

The residents of the southern region of Gyeonggi Province have had to travel as far as Cheonanasan (천안아산) Station or Daejon (대전) Station to use KTX. Not any more, since KTXnow availableSuwon (수원) City.

For the convenience of southern Gyeonggi residents, KTX 602Seoul to Busan on Gyeongbu (경부) Line will now stop at Suwon (수원) Station.
The stop at Suwon (수원) StationKTX was originally scheduled to commence in 2014 when work on the Suseo (수서)-Pyeongtaek (평택) section of the Metropolitan KTX line was complete. However, KTX stops at Suwon (수원) Station were realized 4 years ahead of schedule thanks to requests madeGyeonggi Province.
The residents of the southern parts of Gyeonggi Province have been experiencing inconvenience when they traveled to BusanSaemaul (새마을) or Mugunghwa (무궁화) trains because they had to transfer trains at Cheonanasan (천안아산) or Daejon (대전), which resulted in a total travel time of four to five hours.
With KTX stopping at Suwon (수원) Station, travel to Busan will take only 2 hours40 minutes, whichup to 40 minutes less compared to travel via Saemaul (새마을)transferring at Daejon (대전) Station
When the construction of the Suseo-Pyeongtaek section of the Metropolitan KTX linecomplete at theof 2014, travel to Busan will take 2 hours17 minutes, a further shortening of 23 minutes, because KTX runs longer up to Jije Station in Pyeongtaek. Since the recent opening of the Dongdaegu-Busan section of the second stage of KTX, the entire nationnow within a one-day living zone. Gyeonggi Province will increase the number of KTX trains according to the increasing number of train scontinue to provide convenient railway services to southern Gyeonggi residents.
