1. Gyeonggi Athletes Go for 9th Consecutive Win in National Games

The biggest sports festival in the nation, the 91st National Games, opened in Jeonju (전주). With the largest number of athletes in history, the Gyeonggi Province team aims at achieving a 9th consecutive win at the games.

The 91st National Games opened with a splendid fireworks display in Jinju (진주), South Gyeongsang (경상) Province. Under the motto of “Come TogetherDive into the World,” this year’s annual event continued until October 12th at a number of sports sites in South Gyeongsang (경상) Province.
Over 25,000 athletes16 citiesprovinces participated in the gamescompeted for their hometowns in 44 events.
With a team of 1,987 athletes, whichmore than the 1,824 athletes of the Seoul Team, Gyeonggi Province aims to achieve a record 9th consecutive win in this year’s National Games.
On the second day of the games, Ji Ye-Won (지예원)Gwanyang (관양) High School won a gold medal for Gyeonggi Province in the 400m high school women’s free-style swimming event.set a new Korean record of 4 minutes 14.94 seconds.
Jang Mi-Ran (장미란), the world-class female weightlifter,almost certain to win 3 straight gold medals in the women’s 75kg weightlifting category,other Gyeonggi competitors in JudoInline Skating are also expected to collect the lion’s share of medals in their respective categories. South Gyeongsang (경상) Province, the host of the games,a strong contender but, based on last year’s performance, Gyeonggi Province expects to achieve another overall win this year with a total score of approximately 75,000 points.
2.Gyeonggi Province Draws Up Dramatically Increased Revised Supplementary Budget Plan

Gyeonggi Province officially disclosed the second Revised Supplementary Budget Plan for 2010 on October 5th. The new revised supplementary budgetKRW 534 billion more than the first revision. Let’s take a look at what it entails.

Gyeonggi Province announced that it has finalized the second revision of the supplementary budget plan for 2010 at a total amount of KRW 14.4 trillion,referred the new plan for deliberationthe Gyeonggi Provincial Council.
This new revised supplementary budgetapproximately KRW 534 billion – or 3.5% larger – than the first supplementary budget, which was KRW 13.9 trillion.
Considering the current economic situation, which Gyeonggi Province regards as being fara realistic recovery – albeit a general understanding of object-economymoving in that direction – the province emphasized the necessity of providing customized welfare benefitscreating new jobs for people in low income brackets.
From the total amount of the new supplementary budget, KRW19.8 billion has been set aside for various projects for job creationeconomic revival including overseas employment support for university graduatescustomized manpower training in collaboration with the academicprivate sectors.
Another KRW 69.2 billion has been earmarked for projects that support people in low income brackets including home nursingdomestic affairs supportthe augmentation of welfare facilities for people with disabilities.
3.Gyeonggi Happy Garden Story 2010

There are creative gardens designedtop domestic garden designersothers dcitizens themselves in the Gyeonggi Happy Garden Story, a garden culture fair held in Okgu (옥구) Park in Shiheung (시흥) City. Gyeonggi Province organized this exhibition to promote garden culturethe brand value of the region.
These gardenstheir fixtures will remain after the garden fair closes, allowing citizens to enjoy them whenever they want. Starting with Shiheung (시흥) City, Gyeonggi Province plans to hold the Gyeonggi Happy Garden Story in each citycounty in the province in order to add green gardens to urban habitats.
4.Sisterhood Ties Open up Sales Opportunities for Social Enterprises

There are society-conscious companies – termed ‘social enterprises’ – that provide underprivileged individuals with work opportunitiessocial services. In order to support the continuous growth of these companies, Gyeonggi Province has arranged sisterhood relationships between these companiesthe divisions, officesaffiliated institutes of the provincial government. Gyeonggi Province also plans to play an active role in developing sales markets for them.

110 social enterprises established sisterhood relationships with offices, divisionsinstitutes of Gyeonggi Province.
The establishment of sisterhood ties between companiesrelated public offices will enhance the effectiveness of support as the public offices can provide support better suited to the needs of the sisterhood companies.
Support for social enterprises so far has mainly focused on providing manpower as well as monetary support for manpowerproject development. However, the autonomous offices will also provide intensive consulting services as well as support for consultingmarket development.
After the ceremony for the establishment of sisterhood relationships, a forum was held under the topic of the promotiondevelopment of social enterprises in which the necessity for the opening of the public sector marketrevision of local rulesregulations were recognized.

5.Entertainment Festival for the Visually Impaired

Our visually disabled neighbors, who have to live in an uncomfortable world of darkness, were brought to a celebrationthey spent a day singing, playing,enjoying themselves. It was a joyous festival overall. However, this event also gave rise to the recognition of the problem facedvisually impaired individuals; the serious shortage of basic rehabilitation facilities crucial for their daily lives.

Games of traditional Yoonnori (웇놀이) are different when the players are visually disabled. Scores are markedmoving metal stickscheckedexamining the number of holes leftthe sticks.
Fingers are busy reading braille on white sheets of paper. Reading as quicklyaccurately as possiblethe key to winning this contest.
Out of a total of approximately 46,000 visually impaired individuals in Gyeonggi Province, 1,200 participated in this welfare festival for the visually impaired. White walking sticks symbolizing the independencesuccess of those with visual impairments were handed out to the participants,prizes were awarded to those individuals who showed dedication for the improvement of welfare for the visually impaired.
There are 21 rehabilitation centers in Gyeonggi Province. However, only three of them operate training programs for walking, braille reading,computers for people with visual impairments; this falls far short of meeting actual demand.
The difficulties as well as the hopes of visually impaired individuals were sharedall participants in this festival, fostering a greater recognition of the enormity of the tasks that must be tackled for the improvement of welfare for people with visual impairments.

During this event, 24 organizations in Gyeonggi Province for senior citizens presented performances,those who had made notable contributions to the welfare of the aged were presented with awards.
The objectives of this party for senior citizens were to promote solidarity among organizations for the aged in Gyeonggi Province as well as social participationaged individuals.
Recent demographic shifts have resulted in the increase of the aged population, which has also increased the need for social participationsenior citizens.
Gyeonggi Province plans to implement a variety of welfare programs for senior citizens including the promotion of social participationthe aged through voluntary work projects.
If the aged populationto occupy a secure position as an active part of society instead of being considered merely as dependent, society-wide attentionefforts will have to be exercised, especially as society as a wholeaging.
7. Experience as Firefighters at 119 Safety Camp

The 119 Safety Camp was held in order to promote safety consciousness as well as an understanding of the hard work of firefighters among children.

Firefighters quickly evacuate the dangerous site of a firewalk away safelythe smoke-filled area. They try a water cannonhave first-hand experience with a powerful fire extinguisher.
The kindergarten teachers who led the children to the experiential site also were pleased with the educational effect of the event.
3) 12th Safety Experiential Event in Seoul Land, Gwacheon City
The 12th Safety Camp opened in Seoul Land in Gwacheon (과천) City.
This firefighting experiential event was the largest of its kind in the country.
In addition to a variety of experiential programs, an exhibition was also held displaying firefighter uniformsimages of firefightingrescue operations, drawing much interestyoung visitors.
The 119 Safety Campexpected to provide children with an opportunity to become more conscious of safety through experiential programsan enhanced understanding of the hard work of firefighters.
