1.West Hwaseong Police Station Opens New Office Building for Better Security Service

The West Hwaseong Police Station was first established in 2008. Now the police station has openedmoved into a new office building in Shinnamdong in Hwaseong City with an official ceremony for the completion of the building.

A completion ceremony was held for the new office building of the West Hwaseong Police Station, which opened 18 months after construction began. This four-story building with an underground floorlocated on a 10,815-square meter site in Shinnam-dong.
Since its establishment, the West Hwaseong Police Station has been overseeing an area of 562 square kilometers in the western part of Hwaseong City including Namyang-dong, Bongdam-eup, Woojeong-eupHyangnam-eup. In addition to inhibiting criminal activitiesstrengthening security within its jurisdiction, the opening of this police station also provides a tremendous sense of safety to residents of the area.
The jurisdiction of the West Hwaseong Police Stationin the mid south-western part of Gyeonggi Province, whichinfamous for the occurrence of vicious crimes. Hwaseong City has been reborn as a safe city since the opening of this police station.
Within only two years of its establishment, the West Hwaseong Police Station achieved a crime resolution rate of 82% with 1181 successful arrests out of a total of 1441 criminal cases. The Gyeonggi Provincial Government also opened additional police stations in Uiwang CityDongducheon City, thereby launching an era of at least one police station for every citycounty in the province
2. Muhanseomghim Alleviates Burdens of Families of Children with Disabilities

There are more than 49,000 mentally challenged individuals in Gyeonggi Province. The challenges of their condition also extend to their family members. There are a number of government support programs for individuals with disabilities such as a personal assistant service. However, these programs fall far short of alleviatingthe challenges facedthe families.

Beomjoonhis family live in the basement floor of this apartment in Gwangmyeong City. Beomjoon receives 60 hours of personal assistant service each month, but the duration of each visitthe personal assistantfar too short for his mother, who has to leave Beomjoon alone at home because of her work as an insurance broker.
Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-Soo visited Beomjoon to experience for himself the challenges facedthe parents of a disabled child.
After personally assisting Beomjoon with his picture drawingplayground activities, Governor Kim talked with members of the Korean Parents’ Network for People with Disabilitieslistened as they described the difficulties of parenting disabled children.
In the meeting with the Governor, parents expressed how insufficient the personal assistant servicethe welfare budget for children with disabilities are.
Governor Kim promised that he will initiate measures to establish a support center for the parents of those with disabilities to cover the northern areas of Gyeonggi Province in order to alleviate the challenges facedthe families of disabled children.
Let us hope that the governor’s hands-on experience as a personal assistant for a child with disabilities, which he did to keep his promise to respond to any complaintprovincial residents, will lead to the development of an effective personal assistant service policy,
3.Gyeonggi Small & Medium Business Center Helps New Businesses

The Gyeonggi SmallMedium Business Center will once again provide a training course for those who intend to open a new business or move on to other types of business.
The course consists of 5 level classes including intensive education on individual business types, on-site trainingworkshops. This educational course also provides extensive follow-up educationa consultation service to ensure the successful opening of businesses.

4.Three More 24/365 Civil Applications Offices to Open This Year

The 24/365 Civil Applications Office that opened at Suwon Station on July 5th has been busy providing many provincial residents with convenient service. Three more such offices will open at the Bucheon, PyeongtaekDongducheon Joongang stations before theof this year.

The 24/365 Civil Applications Office at Suwon Station, the first of its kind in Korea, provides residents with access to fast service even commuting.
Although this office has been open for just over one month, itnow processing a daily average of 150 civil applications.
The civil applications processed daily include 55 applications for various certificates, 50 enquires regarding facility utilization, 29 general consultations, 11 job consultations4 cases each of legalMuhandolbom welfare consultations.
Gyeonggi Province finalized plans to establish three more civil applications offices at the high-traffic stations of Bucheon, PyeongtaekDongducheon Joongang.
24/365 Civil Applications Offices are ready to assist provincial residentsspearhead the civil applications service with fastconvenient responses to the needs of residents.
5.Japanese Companies Including Canon Inc. to Invest USD 130 Million in Gyeonggi Province

Canon Inc. of Japan, one of theUS patent holders in the field of optical partselements for more than ten years, decided to invest USD 100 million in Gyeonggi Province.
Based on this MOU, construction work will start for the establishment of manufacturingR&D facilities on an site of approximately 100,000 square meters in the Shihwa Multi-Techno Valley.
The scale of these facilities will be larger than those of Canon’s current facilities in ChinaJapan, which also means that Gyeonggi Province will become a major manufacturing base for Canon Inc., a leading global company.
The total investments pledgedJapanese companies to the Gyeonggi Investment Promotion Division amount to USD 130.5 million. ApartCanon Inc, NEG, a manufacturer of LCD glass substrates, will invest USD 24 million in Paju City,Uemura Industries, a semiconductor manufacturer, will invest USD 6.5 million in Hwaseong City.
The successful inducement of these investments due to the production efficiency of Gyeonggi Province reaffirms the competitiveness of the province as an ideal location for investmentforeign companies. This successexpected to help boost the local economy through the increased export of semiconductor, renewable energyoptic devices.
6.Gyeonggi Gambling Addiction PreventionTreatment Center Opens

The Gyeonggi Gambling Addiction PreventionTreatment Center opened in Gucheon-dong of Suwon City in order to provide one-stop treatment for local gambling addicts. Itthe third of its kind to open in Korea following centers in SeoulBusan.
This center features facilities for consultation, music therapy, cooking classes, therapeutic exerciserehabilitation treatment.
According to recent statistics, 6.6 to 9.5% of adults aged 20 or older suffergambling addiction. Among them, 2.5 to 3 million are so seriously addicted that they require therapeutic consultation.
This center will provide education for the prevention of gambling addiction, consultation services for the families of gambling addictsa variety of therapeutic programs.

7.Golden Eggs of Gyeonggi Province to Be Exported to Singapore

Eggs produced in Gyeonggi Province were sold to Hong Kong last year,they are now being exported to Singapore as well. A buyers’ delegationSingapore visited an egg farm in Gyeonggi Provincevisually confirmed the superiority of Gyeonggi’s eggs. They expressed high regard for eggs produced in Gyeonggi Province.

A team of Singapore buyers visited an egg farm in Yeoju County. This farm produces eggs under the strict principle of using no antibiotics.
Eggs will be subject to thorough quarantine procedures before they are shipped to Singaporea distribution company.
The initial shipment will consist of 2.29 million fresh Gyeonggi eggs, whichequivalent to only 2% of Singapore’s total egg imports.
Gyeonggi eggs will be sold at prices that are approximately 20% higher than those of Malaysian eggs, which currently have a bigger market share in Singapore. The market share of Gyeonggi eggs, however,expected to expand up to 23% due to their superior quality.
