1.Gwanggyo Only 30 Minutes AwayGangnam

Construction work for the extension of the Shinbundang Subway Line between Jeongja (정자) Station in BundangGwanggo New Town in Suwon began following a ground-breaking ceremony. The Shinbundang Line, which will be completed next year, runs between GangnamJeongja. This means that Gwanggyo can be reached in half an hourGangnam when the extension workfinished in 2015.

A ground-breaking ceremony was held for the construction of the first extension of the Shinbundang Subway Line. This extension will consist of a double-track line between JeongjaGwanggyo.
This double-track extension will span 12.8 kmincludes the construction of six stationsone carriage base.
Construction of the extension between JeongjaGwanggoscheduled for completion in 2015. The connection with the Shinbundang Line, which runs between GangnamJeongja, will reduce the travel time between GangnamJeongja to a mere 30 minutes. When another planned extension on the oppositeof the Shinbundang Line between Gangman Yongsancompleted in 2017, Yongsan can be reachedGwanggyo in approximately 40 minutes.
This project will be carried out as a Build-to-Order Project with investmentthe private sector for a total amount of KRW 1 trillion 25.6 billion.
The Ministry of Land, TransportMaritime Affairs expects that the extension of the Shinbundang Line will alleviate traffic problems in the southeastern region of the greater capital area.
This subway extension projectexpected to have an estimated KRW 4 trillion 711.8 billion in beneficial effects on the local economylead to the creation of 3,500 new jobs.
2.DominAnbang Spreads Throughout Gyeonggi Province

DominAnbang opens in Anseong City of Gyeonggi Province. The provincial officersa mobile medical team set up an on-site service centerdeal with civil applicationsprovide legaljob consultations as well as medical services.
DominAnbang will visit subways stations, large supermarketsother populated locations in 21 citiescounties in the southern part of Gyeonggi Province including the cities of Anseong, Gimpo,Osan. It will visit each location twice a monthprovide civil application services as well as consultations on legal affairs, employmenthealth10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Many provincial residents who had difficulties traveling to provincial offices or health institutes because of the distances involved are gratified to have provincial officersmedical specialists at their doorstep.
DominAnbang began operation in March with a commencement ceremony at Jihaeng Station in Dongducheon City in order to implement a visiting administration for those who are unable to visit provincial government offices due to issues of distance or time.
Gyeonggi Province will strengthen on-site administration activitiescommunication with residents through DominAnbangthe 24/365 Civil Service Centers.
3.Recycling Food Waste as an Eco-friendly Energy Source

Did you know that food waste can generate money itproperly recycled? Noxious food waste can be recycled to produce renewable energy of economic value. Thispossible due to a new technology developedthe Gyeonggi Institute of HealthEnvironment Research. With this technology, eco-friendly methane gas can be producedfood waste.

Wethrow away food waste everyday. It costs taxpayers no less than KRW 15 trillion every year to dispose of this food waste. Previously, food waste recycling had been limited to reusing it for animal feed or compost, but there were considerable difficulties in the operation of facilities necessary for the handling of byproducts.
The Gyeonggi Institute of HealthEnvironment Research reported the development of a method of producing clean fuel, methane gas,food waste,obtained patent approval for this technology. Methaneproducedfood waste through three processes.
First, food wastecollectedsorted. An enzymethen added for liquid hydrolysis extraction. Next, the extraction, which consists of sugar, proteinsfat,transformed into an organic acidbacteria. Finally, methane gasproduced as a result of the reaction of the bacteria with the organic acid.
Production of methane gas through this method takes up to 13 days less than conventional fermentation methods.
One ton of food waste can produce 100 m3 of methane gas. If electricity produced using this quantity of gassold to the Korea Electric Power Corporation, its valueKRW 51,000. Production of methane gasfood wasteexpected to contribute positively to provincial green growth policy because itonly reduces the cost of food waste disposal but also produces an eco-friendly alternative energy source.
4.Promotion of the DMZ Korean International Documentary Festival

The organizer of the DMZ Korea International Documentary Festival began full-scale promotion of the event. Last year’s festival – which was held under the theme of peace, lifecommunication – was a successfulhighly praised event.

Gyeonggi Provincethe Gyeonggi PerformanceFilm Commission held an Organizing Committee Meeting for the 2nd DMZ Korea International Documentary Festival on July 19tha vehicle sticker ceremony on July 29th.
This year’s Korea International Documentary Festivaldesigned to project a vividlively image under the slogan of ‘the documentary festival sharedthe public’. The festival will be held in conjunction with several events in the Paju Publishing Complex,participationtouristslocal residents will also be promoted.
An open contest will be held to support productions. The final four winning documentaries will be awarded a total of KRW 40 million through open pitching during the festival.
The DMZ Korea International Documentary Festival was praised last year for the introduction of superior documentary productions. The number of featured productions has increased to 70 this year,a domestic competition section has been added.
The 2nd DMZ Documentary Film Festival will run for five daysSeptember 9th until 13th in the Paju Publishing Complex. This theme of this year’s festival‘DMZ, a Space of Peace, LifeCommunication.’
5.Tighter Public Security in Gyeonggi Province

With last year’s advent of the “one-city/district, one-police station” era, Gyeonggi Province strengthened public security. The provincial government will provide even tighter public security service when additional police stations open.

Public security service in Gyeonggi Province will become tighter when the provincial government opens more police stations in three provincial cities that have wider areaslarger populations.
Establishment of additional police stations will effectively reduce the occurrence of various crimestraffic accidents. The arrest rate for five major crimes in Gyeonggi Police increased17.4% compared to the previous year. The arrest rate for robberytheft, in particular, increased39.8%.
Gyeonggi Police ranked second in a national survey of job satisfaction among policemen. It also ranked first amongprovinces in a service quality assessmentthe Korea Standards Association.
Gyeonggi Provincealso endeavoring to provide a safe street environment for students through the Anshim Service for Commuting Students. In order to assure safety for residents, Gyeonggi Province plans to establish an Integrated Anshim Service Center2014.

7.AgeIncome Limits to Be Mitigated in Rehabilitation Therapy for Physically Challenged Children

Gyeonggi Province decided to apply much lighter ion criteria for rehabilitation therapy for physically challenged children in order to enable more children to benefitsuch therapy.

Intellectually impaired patients are participating rehabilitation therapy. Through this therapy, patients are trained to adapt to everyday life through physical activitieslinguisticcognitive exercises.
In order to provide more residents with the benefits of rehabilitation therapy, Gyeonggi Province decided to apply much lighter ion criteria for subject patients.
Currently, rehabilitation therapy supportavailable only to families with less than 100% of the average income level. However, families with less than 150% but more than 100% of the average income level will also be able to apply for therapy there are two or more physically challenged persons in a family or at least one of the parentsseverely handicapped. The age limit will also be adjusted18 to 20.
Monthly support for rehabilitation therapy will be provided in the range of KRW 160,000 to 220,000 to the recipients. For instance, the recipients of the lowest living cost allowance will be eligible for monthly support of KRW 220,000the next highest support recipients will receive KRW 200,000 monthly.
According to the present income limit for rehabilitation therapy support, a family with two physically challenged childrenincome greater than the prescribed limitunable to benefitthe support. When the mitigated limits are applied in September, however, approximately 820 additional children are expected to benefitthe support.
