1. Full-range Free Legal ServiceConsultation to Lawsuit

Gyeonggi Province appointed additional consultants to the consulting team of the Free Legal Service Center. Now with a total of 101 consultants, this center can provide more specialized legal services to Gyeonggi residents.

The opening of the Free Legal Service CenterGyeonggi Province in April last year made legal services far more accessible for the residents of the province. Now, Gyeonggi Provinceexpanding the service capacity of this center with the reinforcement of its consulting team.

Joinedeleven newly appointed consultants, the Free Legal Service Center now has a team of 101 consultants.

Effecting the amendment of ‘The Codes of EstablishmentManagement of the Free Legal Service of Gyeonggi Province,’ the provincial government will provide residents with free legal service for lawsuits beginningthe middle of July.

The Free Legal Serviceavailable to the recipients of the Muhandolbom welfare service as well as Basic Living Cost Benefit recipients, the disabled,residents with less income levels than 170% of the official minimum cost of living.

The Free Legal Serviceopen2 pm until 5 pm everydayMonday to Friday at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complexthe Civil Applications Office at Suwon Station.

2.Completion of Gunnam Dam in Yeoncheon Relieves Gyeonggi ResidentsWorries of FloodDraught

Gunnam Dam began operation on July 1st after an inauguration ceremony held the previous day. Construction of the dam was completed more than one year earlier than originally planned. With this dam, the flooddraught damage that has plagued the reaches of the Imjin River will now decrease considerably.

The Gunnnam Dam, which was commissioned for the prevention of flood damage along the Imjin River valley areas, began full operation after an inauguration ceremony.

This dam, which26 m high658 m long, can hold up to 70 million tons of water in its reservoir.

During normal times, water flows through the floodgates of the dam, but during drought, 15 million tons of water can be rerouted to the YeoncheonPaju areas in Gyeonggi Province for agricultural use.

Gunnam Damlocated 50 km downstreamHwanggang Dam in North Korea. Its 13 floodgates will also protect the Imjin River valley against the hostile discharge of waterthe Hwanggang DamNorth Korea.

In addition to the dam construction, the Ministry of Land, TransportMaritime Affairs also plans to develop the Gunnam anti-flood reservoirits surrounding areas for culturalleisure activities. The work, which will include the construction of necessary facilitiesan eco-friendly park, will be completedtheof next year.

3.Poems Reborn with Cartoons

An exhibition with the novel concept of combining poemscartoons has opened. This exhibition was organized to provide viewers with an opportunity to appreciate Korean poemscartoons more closely.

This piece, dKim Na-gyeong presents the poem ‘Flower Garden’the famous late poet, Yoon Seok-jung. The cartoon image of the babythe flower petals, which are featured in the poem, project the poetic sentiment more vividly.

Gyeonggi Provincethe Korea Cartoon Contents Agency jointly opened the ‘PoemsCartoons Exhibition’ as an ‘exhibition that visits viewers’ in the second floor lobby of Suwon Station. The exhibition runs until July 15th.

This exhibition of cartoons with poems was organized with the objective of inspiring social awareness of the necessity of promoting the cartoon industry.

This exhibition issimply a display of pieces butalso accompaniedvarious interesting programs that prompt the involvement of viewers, such as modeling for a caricature drawn on siteparticipating cartoonists.

Gyeonggi Provincethe Korea Cartoon Contents Agency plan to jointly host a total of six cartoon exhibitions this year. The next event, the ‘Hokukbokuk Cartoon Exhibition’ with a theme of ‘patriotism,’ will open in August.

4.Gyeonggi Province to Support University Students with Loan Interest

In order to alleviate the financial burden of students attending collegesuniversities in the province, Gyeonggi Province plans to provide interest-payment support in collaboration with the Korea Student Aid Foundation.

The tuition fee amount for collegesuniversities in Gyeonggi ProvinceKRW 4 million on average for a half-year term. This means that the annual cost of educationnearly KRW 10 million for each student, which can be an overwhelming sum for students.

In order to alleviate the burden of educational costs bornestudents of collegesuniversities in the province, Gyeonggi Province entered an agreement to provide them with financial aid to cover the interest on student loans.

According to this support policy, out of the 5.7% annual interest rate on student loans, the amount of interest remaining after the deduction of a government subsidy of 2.5% will be the subject of supportGyeonggi Province.

Studentsclass 12 families with annual income levels of less than KRW 19.07 million are eligible for interest-free loans. Class 3, 45 families will have a 1.7% interest deduction,class 67 families will receive a 1.3% interest deduction. This means the interest support for each student will amount to KRW 240,000 to 450,000 per year.

Beginningthe second semester of this year,students who receive a student loanthe Korea Student Aid Foundationwho have been living in Gyeonggi Province for more than one year are eligible for this interest support.

There are approximately twelve thousand students in Gyeonggi Province who will benefitthis new interest support program for studentslow-income families.

5.365.24 Civil Applications Office Adds Convenience for Gyeonggi Residents

The ‘24/365 Public Service Office,’ which provides provincial residents with quick responses to civil applications, has celebrated its 100th day of operation. This office was praisedmany residents as they could receive services even during off-office hours. Now another ‘24/365 Public Service Office” has opened at the Suwon Station.

Another 24/365 Public Service Office opened at the Suwon Station. Gyeonggi residents who commute via Suwon Station subwaysbuses can now use this civil application service anytime at their convenience.

In this 69.42 square meter office, five staff members also provide Muhandolbom welfare servicejob consultation services in addition to the processing of various civil applications.

Since March 23rd, the 24/365 Public Service Office at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex has been providing non-stop services daynight.

The total number of civil applications processed over the past 100 days was 10,556. Thisan average of 106 cases per daya tremendous increase compared with the previous 21 cases per day. Usagehighest until 10 pm at 72.1%. Night-time usage10pm to 9am was also high.

The quality of service provided in response to civil applications has also improved. For example, when a civil complaintreceived, an on-site visitrelevant personnelarranged to address the problem.

6.‘Gyeonggi Calligraphy Club Exhibition’

A total of 50 calligraphy pieces displayed at this exhibition represent a year’s hard workthe members of the Gyeonggi Calligraphy Cub of Gyeonggi Province. This exhibition will run until July 18th at the Mulhyanggi Forest Garden in Gyeonggi Province.

The Gyeonggi Calligraphy Club was founded in 1993the members of the calligraphy club in Gyeonggi Province. This club has been working actively in two groups: a weekday groupSaturday work group.

The members of the Gyeonggi Calligraphy Club are working hard to the art of calligraphy under the direction of the teacher, ‘Seokje’ Lim dong-bin, who won several awards he was an officer of Gyeonggi Province.

This exhibitionthe first of its kind heldthe members of the club,is providing visitors to the forest garden with an opportunity to learn more about the Gyeonggi Calligraphy Club enjoying the calligraphy exhibition.

7. Increased Environmental Preservation Fund Will Lead to the Reduction of Environmental Contamination

With the contamination of the environment becoming ever more serious problem, Gyeonggi Province decided to increase its support for companies in the establishment of environmental contamination protection facilities up to KRW 1 billion. The range of companies subject to support will also be expanded.

Gyeonggi Province has been providing support of up to KRW 500 million to companies that generate airwater contaminants when those companies install facilities to prevent environmental contamination.

However, as concerns regarding environmental contamination increase, the Province decided to increase its support to KRW 1 billionalso to expand the range of subject companies.

The business areas of companies eligible for this support include wastewater treatment, measurement of environmental contaminants, contractors for precision measurement of vehicle gas emissions,vehicle servicing for gas emission reduction. Applications are received through the environmental departments of local citydistrict offices.

The candidate companies for support are screened first through submitted documentationthendeliberation at the bank. The companies finally ed will be granted a special condition loan of up to KRW 1 billion at an interest rate of 3.5%, whichrepayable in installments over 5 years after a 3-year grace period.

The current sum of the Environmental Preservation Fund runGyeonggi ProvinceKRW 23.9 billion, but this will be increased to over KRW 56 billion. This increase willonly help reduce the burden on smallmedium-sized companies as they lessen their environmental impact but will also promote the development of the environment industry as well.
