1. The Korean Army Comes to the Aid of Stockbreeders in Gyeonggi Province with the ‘Agreement on the Use of CPRL Grass as Feed’

The conclusion of Free Trade Agreements with United StatesEuropean Unionan outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease early this year were devastating blows to already struggling livestock farmers in Korea. To alleviate some of their hardships, the 1st Infantry Division of the Korean Army entered an agreement with Gyeonggi Province on the use of wild grass growing beyond Civilian Passage Restriction Line as livestock feed.

In the presence of more than 100 witnesses including livestock farmers, Gyeonggi Provincethe 1st Infantry Division of the Korean Army signed an agreement that will make wild grass harvestedthe uninhabited jurisdiction of the 1st Infantry Division beyond the Civilian Passage Restriction Line (or CPRL) available to livestock farmers in Gyeonggi Province free of charge for use as feed. This agreementconsidered a feat in the creation of win-win benefits for the private, publicmilitary sectors. Gyeonggi Province promised to draw up demand projectionsprovide necessary equipment in return for the hospitality of the 1st Infantry Division.

Since there are few grass lands in Gyeonggi Province, 260,000 tons of grass feedstuff has to be importedoverseas every year.

Using wild grassthe CPRL fields, livestock farmers in Gyeonggi Province can save KRW 1.3 billion in substitution for importsprevent the infiltration of microorganismsoverseas that cause infectious livestock diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease.

This agreement willonly increase livestock farmers’ income but will also relieve Korean soldiersthe harsh manual work of grass weeding under the scorching sun.

2. Country-of-Origin Indication System Safeguards Foods of Gyeonggi Residents

In order to promote the safety of traded foods, Gyeonggi Province began educating food sellers in conventional markets on the compulsory indication of country-of-origin on their commodities, since compliance with this requirementrelatively quite low in conventional markets.

The French team ledMathew Richard won the final against Ian Williams’ English team3 to 1. It was the first win of the Korea Match Cup for the French team, who sailed through the competition with excellent teamworkskill.

Winning the Korea Match Cup final, the French team scored a total of 65 points throughout the World Match Racing Tour,proved themselves to be the best sailing team in the world.

Ian Williams, leading his English team, has been able to reach the final every year since the first Korea Match Cup, but has unfortunately ended up in second place each time.

4. Muhandolbom Ties-up with Smile Microcredit Bank

Muhandolbom , or ‘Unlimited Caring’,an on-going, one-stop welfare support service of Gyeonggi Province for families that are in critical situations but ineligible for welfare benefits or incapable of seeking such benefits. Gyeonggi Province Muhandolbom will launch a financial service to help distressed families with their self-support efforts in collaboration with the KB Smile Microcredit Bank.

A new financing program will be made available to the beneficiaries of the Muhandolbom service, who are desperately in need of reviving their livelihood, to help them start new businesses.

Gyeonggi Province, the KB Smile Microcredit Bankthe Gyeonggi Welfare Foundation signed an MOU for business commencement support for low-income residents in the northern part of the province.

The main purpose of this MOUto assist families among the beneficiaries of the Muhandolbom service who have the potential for self-supportproviding small but substantialstable credits so as to help them establish new businesses.

Following the signing of the MOU, the KB Smile Microcredit Bank developed a new credit product under the tentative name of ‘KB Smile Microcredit Bank-Gyeonggi Muhandolbom Support Loan’. This new loan for business commencement will be made availabletheof June.

In December last year, Gyeonggi Province successfully induced the Samsung Smile Microcredit Bank to establish an office in Suwon City; this was the first case of a company-invested outlet. The signing of the MOU with the KB Smile Microcredit Bank this year will provide much-needed assistance to families that are trying to achieve economic independence.

5. Korea International Boat Show, Now Acclaimed as a World-class International Show

Accordingly, Gyeonggi Province established the ‘Management Doctor Support Plan for Larger Medium-sized Companies’.
Gyeonggi Province will organize workshops for CEOs,in these workshops it will propose tematic visionsstrategies for the attainment of global business status. Gyeonggi Province will also nurture overseas marketing specialists for these companies.

Since April last year, Gyeonggi Province has been providing the conjunctive support of Technology Doctor, which addresses technical problems, as well as the Company SOS SystemEnvironment Doctor.

7. Safe, Eco-friendly Farm Products for PrimaryMiddle School Students
