1. Gyeonggi`s Goal for 2010

2010 looks bright. Last year Gyeonggi Province ran until it was out of breath. This year Gyeonggi Province has set a new direction for administration.

Gyeonggi Province divided the direction for administration into 4 areas for 2010, year
of the white tiger.
First, Gyeonggi Province will focus on reorganizing space more efficiently centering
around the GTX to a megacity that can lead the new millennium.
Last April Gyeonggi Province announced the GTX metro transit to be built at the same
time creating a green transportation network connecting Gyeonggi Province, Seoul and
Incheon in order to maintain just 1 hour traveling distance between each other.
A megacitycoming into view that will be able to compete with those in overseas
developed countriesthe US.
Gyeonggi Province plans to build a metropolitan economic area in South Korea based on
the foundation of the GTX to compete with other cities amidst heated global competition.

3. Gyeonggi Province Introduces Emergency Work to Handle Heavy Snowfall

The first business day of 2010 was a struggle after more than 20 cm of snow fell.
Gyeonggi Province went into emergency mode to handle the snow.

According to the disaster safetyprevention center 17.3 centimeters on average fell in
Gyeonggi Province due to a low pressure zone of snow clouds occurringthe west
coast. 3 people were injured in the clean up efforts.
Due to the sudden snow, Gyeonggi dispatched emergency workers to minimize residents`
inconveniences.
Snow removal staffequipment were sent to regions with heavy snowfall,to
prepare for possible damages, Gyeonggi watchedregions of the province in real time.
Also, preparations were made to help farmers deal with damagesconveying information
about how to care for greenhouses under such heavy snow.
The province plans to continually push to clear snowmajor roads, keep an eye on the
weather forecastsform tight bonds with citiescounties in anticipation of perfecting
snow removal efforts.
4. Building the Best Working Environment in the World

Gyeonggi Province eyes 2010 as the year to build a world class business infrastructure to boost the country`s competitive edge.

infrastructure.
Gyeonggi Province will accomplish this through plans to develop new industries to deal with

5. Korea 1st in Green Growth

Gyeonggi Province formed a general propulsion plan for green growth. The province made a
resolution to make Korea the first in green growth through the government`s 5 year
green growth concrete plan.

The propulsion plan includes 123 cases of 9 fields of low carbon green growth projects.
Gyeonggi Province d a concrete green vision through SWOT analysis which took
four monthslast year August.
The GTX projectexpected to decrease 1,500,000 tons of carbon emission, $564 million
of transportation cost 260,000 jobs.
2020
Gyeonggi Province plans to reduce 40% of carbon-dioxide2020constructing a
24,600,000 pyong lake of the ShihwaHwaheong, Daeseong Complex reclaimed land
with green energyagriculturelife R&D complex.
6. PackingBringing Leftovers Campaign

Gyeonggi Province, practicing green environment,supporting food packaging machines
for restaurants to exercise the `PackingBringing Leftovers Campaign`. Through
reducing food wastes, $12.8 billion can be saved yearly.

Restaurants neatly pack the leftovers using the food packaging machines.
Gyeonggi Province gave out free food packaging machines in July 2009 to 53 traditional
Korean food restaurants.
Since vacuum packaginghygienic many customers are asking to take their leftovers
home, which in return reduced the high amounts of food wastes.
The food poisoning electronic scoreboard index was also installed to constantly check
microorganism levels which can indicate food poisoning.
Low Carbon Green Practice
Food wastes result in $12.8 billion worth of wasted food resources yearly. Gyeonggi
Province constructing an environmentally friendly food culture within the province hopes to
expand the low carbon green practice throughout the nation.
7. Change in 2010 Passport System

The amendment of the passport law has brought about some passport tems changes in
2010.

The implementation of the passport tem improvement took its course January 1st 2010
to strengthen passport securityfor the convenience of residents.
To prevent forged or borrowed names for passport applications, fingerprints will be
checked during the passport issuance application.
All applicants have to undergo fingerprint checking except people under
18 years oldrepresentatives.

Over 60 passport agencies were dfrom January onwards one can be issued a
passport in any of the 200 local governments nationwide.
