1. Game Learning

A school that teaches English through online gamesthe talk of the town,has increased the learning efficiency of students.

In one Gyeonggi elementary school, students sit in front of their computers absorbed in online games.
Students learn English easily through game characters in which they collect words to make sentences.

Jangpyeong elementary school, with only 57 students in a small rural community started the G-learning class in August.
Since then students’ concentrationlearning efficiency increased incredibly.

Gyeonggi started the G-learning classes to enhance the learning opportunities for students in rural areas, but the trial classes willin December. It plans to expand the class to other schools after an evaluation procedure.

2. National Police University Students Help Boost Grades

The National Police Universitygiving an opportunity to children of low income households to study as much as they want through a free tutoring service. The National Police University students provide learning opportunities, hopesomething to dream about.

There are special tutors in the Gyeonggi Province Yongin City community child center.

Every Thursday night the special tutors, whom are National Police University students, visit the center.

2) Execution of National Police University Free Tutoring Service
The free tutoring service started its operations for low income household elementary to high school students after a contract agreement between Gyeonggi Provincethe National Police University was concluded in March.

The National Police Universitymoving forward with a plan to establish a student aid foundation to help students get in to university.

Due to the worsening financial situation, studentslow income households have lost private education opportunities. With the free tutoring service, those students have gained new hopesdreams.

3. Peace March

Young people20 countries around the world, including South Korea, have taken the first steps in a peace march. They get to reflect on the meaning of peace through a long marchGoseong, Gangwon Province to Imjingak, Gyeonggi Province.

The ceremony of the DMZ Documentary Film Festival peace march kicked off successfully.

155 people20 countries participated in this peace march ceremony to reorganize their thoughts of peace, communicationlife.

Participants of the long march included domestic university studentsyouths, IsraeliPalestinian students.

Through this event, peacecommunication sharing, the DMZ Documentary Film Festival’s spirit of ‘peace’, ‘communication’, ‘life’‘revolution’ are expected to be symbolically revealed.

The opening of the DMZ Documentary Film Festival on Oct. 10th together with the peace marcpected to be an instrument that enhances thoughts on the importance of peace.

4. Protect the Environment, Help the Less Fortunate

Government officials at Gyeonggi Province actively participated in an event helping the less fortunate protecting the environmentcollecting used cell phones.

The collection of oldunused cell phones, which started on October 1st,set up to protect the environmentalso to help the needydonating money madesales.

5. Companies Participate in Constructing Nurseries

Gyeonggi Province together with large domestic conglomerates, OsanIcheon will build nurseries for 0 to 5 year old infantstoddlers. Reducing the burdens of nurturing for women who work.

A serious social issue of the low fertility rate made Gyeonggi Province step up to solve nurturing issues for women workers.

Hynix Semiconductor in Icheon will construct a world`s first 24 hour nursery for workers with 3 shifts as a social welfare benefit.

The nursery can accommodate 200 children. The statecity donated $709,000 Hynix proposed to offer an infinite amount for the building site.)

6. Green Partnership Forum Held

Due to the earth’s changing climate, Gyeonggi Province held a Green Partnership International Forum to seek ways to become a city that protects itselfclimate change.

Gyeonggi Province invited ICLEI to discuss climate change with other nations’ local governments.

Forum to stimulate the development of the operation was held.

Developed countries such as GermanyAustralia presented measures for climate changealso emphasized the role of local governments.

To reduce greenhouse gas, itstrongly recommended to initiate CCP, whicha 5 step greenhouse gas management program.

Gyeonggi Province believes that incorporating this advanced program will bring about strong measures for climate change.

By 2013, Korea will be obligated to reduce carbon emissions. Forums heldGyeonggi are expected to accelerate local governments’ efforts in reducing greenhouse gas.

7. Attracting Chinese Elderly Tourists
