▶ Heyri Pan Festival

The ‘Heyri Pan Festival’taking place at Heyri Art Village at Paju, Gyeonggi. This year, special events such as exhibitionsplays are held to celebrate Heyri for being ed as Gyeonggi`s culture district.

There was a big event held in Heyri, Paju.
The `Heyri Pan Festival‘ has been running since September 12, commemorating the designation of Heyri as the first Culture Village of Gyeonggi.
Korean, Chinese,Japanese modern writers` cultural exchangeother writers` special exhibitions take place in nine separate open studios. The workroom at Heyri will also be open to visitors.
Heyri Symphony Orchestra will perform seven outdoor plays including traditional musicdance for four days.
The current festival, held for the third time, was filled with 400 artists.
Paju Heyri Culture Festival`s motif, `In The Circle,` was named after the desire of harmonizing cultural arts with the populace. The festival will run until September 20.

The establishment of a bill for the new Education Bureau rousing discord between the Gyeonggi Provincial Governmentthe Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, has been approvedthe Gyeonggi Provincial Council.
Gyeonggi`s establishment bill for the new Education Bureau has passed the assembly in its original form.
Gyeonggi Provincial Council held the forth regular meeting of the 243rd temporary convention. During the meeting, a bill for the establishment of the new education bureau, the `Gyeonggi partial-readjustment bill on administrative organization quorum ordinance,` has been passed.
Of 101 standing assemblymen, 89 were for12 were against.
During the debate before any actual voting, there were unseemly arguments foragainst the measure.
Since the original bill had passed the assembly, Gyeonggi soon will promulgate itcomplete the reformation process.
Gyeonggi Provincial Council has dealt with 30 bills, including details on the establishment of the education bureauother ordinances. The Assembly Session lasted for 15 days.

Gyeonggi signed an MOU for a $5 million dollar investment with the American semiconductor company, Cryogenic.
By 2010, Cryogenic will be launching their manufacturing facilities at the Jangan Industrial Complex.
Gyeonggi will be supporting these companies through tax cutslease discounts.
Gyeonggi has been preparing for investmentcommerce with North America. The opening of a trade office in LA shows that Gyeonggi takes foreign commerceexchanges seriously.
Gyeonggi`s foreign capital attraction amounts to $170 million dollars. These investments arefive companiesdifferent areas such as the environment, IT,distribution.
Gyeonggi has paved its way to higher employmentthe revitalization of the local economy.

The Gyeonggi Game Test & Operation Service Center provides services such as quality tests for completion, errors,difficulty of games that are in the programming stage on their way to commercialization.
The ideato become a center to provide specialty services for game tests. Accordingly, the centerto train game professionals for quality management, research on technical methodology,proven Q&A services.
Gyeonggi province made agreements with four organizations, including Chungkang College of Cultural Industry, the Gyeonggi Contents Company Council,the Gyeonggi Digital Contents Agency.
Through this signing ceremony, Gyeonggi will set up the foundation for the strategic upbringing of the game industry.

Ricebeing processed into various food products to more demand for the grain.

Korea`s rice consumption per capita has decreased107 kg in 1995, to 76kg in 2008. However rice production will remain high around 4.6 million to 4.8 million tons a year.

▶ Korea Forest Expo 2009
Following the global trends of green growth, Gyeonggithe Korea Forest Service held the Korea Forest Expo. The forest products on display were sensational.

The Second Forest Fair was held at the Ansan Hwarang Camp Grounds under the theme of `The Forest, the Hope of Green Growth.`
The fair displayed different forest-related products in 170 booths.
Blocks madefired mud have much better drainage when compared with existing cement blocks,grass that doesn`t get crushed after being stepped on was also on display grabbing spectators attention.
There were various experience booths informing visitors of the importance of a forest. Chestnut cracking, sound experiences,insect displays especially were the must-see attractions of the fair.
Other than the forest exposition, portable housingitems that doharm forests were of much interest.
▶ Houses Left Empty in the Country Sides

Since people started leaving the country side, moremore houses are being left empty in the rural areas of Icheon, Anseong,Yeoncheon.

Empty houses arehard to find in the rural areas of Gyeonggi Province.
Research conducted in 15 citiesdistricts in Gyeonggi since last April show of the 1035 empty houses, 451 has been demolished. These numbers show a consistent increase each year. The statistics also show that Icheon has the most empty houses, followedAnseongYeoncheon.
These houses pose a great risk of sudden collapsealso harm the nearby environment. In order to prevent such accidents, each locale in Gyeonggihastening the dismantling process.
The real problem herethat the owners of the empty houses are hard to get a hold of. This makes the removal process difficult.
Each citydistrictoffering financial support to those who remove their empty houses voluntarily.
Gyeonggitrying out various schemes to enable the practical uses of these houses, however, remodelingdifficult because many of these homes were built more than 50 or 60 years ago.
